Issues which leads to a reboot |
|
Hi,
Since a while, probably since I've changed my components, I've got a problem. Indeed, whatever the game, after a while (from 10 to 20 minutes usually) my screen begins all black, the song still working (Windows Media Player still working) then either it reboots, or I have to reboot by reset.
My computer seems to be stable, trusting OCCT.
● CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4200+
● RAM: 1 Gb Crucial
● Motherboard: AsRock AM2VN3-VSTA
● VCard: ATI HIS X1650
● HDD: Western Digital Caviar 300 Gb
It doesn't come from power supply (an Heden 480W) neither from the screen.
About the temperature, 50°c CPU and 40°c motherboard, so I guess it isn't the problem.
I'm using Catalyst 7.11 (the lastest, downloaded yesterday).
I hope at least one of you will be able to helps me, thanks guys.

I haven't overclocked anything, I don't know the GPU temp (Everset Ultimate neither Catalyst don't say it)
To be honnest, I don't think it is about temperatures, I have a three fans (25cm; 12cm; 12cm) on the box, I use the AMD fan for the CPU and the Graphic Card has his own fan like on the pic :

Did you put any paste on top of the cpu and fan like Artic Silver?
It seems strange that you have no program to monitor you cpu temp. Also the last ati card that i had game with a program that monitored the fan speed/heat.
Any help!

The CPU is monitored, and there is no problem with the temperature. It is the GPU which isn't monitored, but I use this Vcard for one year. Those are only my CPU + Mobo + DDR which are new.
Thanks to try guys.

Maybe something with your ram is wrong. Check the timings in your bios and the bandwith and post them here and tell us if its one stick or 2 and in what slots you plugged them in.

I have two sticks, dual channel, DDR2, plugged in the good slot :
2 x 512 Mb DDR2, each one at 333Mhz (because of the dual channel, they are supposed to run at 667Mhz) and timing is 5-5-5-15

You could try using "speedfan" to get a temperature reading on your GPU.

It gives (in °c) :
System : 37
CPU : 44
AUX : 41
HD0 : 33
Core : 23
I don't know which one corresponds to the Vcard.

Unfortunately I don't have any other graphic card that I could use.
By the way, I still use AGP 8x
This won't be easy

like I already said, there is no temperature sensor or it is deactivated. you could try every program, without the hardware its not going to work.

And I'm 90% sure that my problem isn't about temperature. Could it be something with USB peripherics, like a remote ?

does it happen on all games or just hl2dm?
have you tried running a stress test? or benchmark test that lasts 30 min to see if the error happens
also .. I think there is a program called MEMtest to test ram ... it's an iso file so you have to burn it to cd and then it tests to see if your ram is shit or not.

It happens in every games, a bit less since today.
Well, I have tested my computer with OCCT, 30 minutes at 100%, and nothing wrong, it says that it is stable.
Then I've tried 3D Mark, no crash. I already have MEMtest on a CD, I will test it this night, we will see..
Thank you for helping.

my old x850xt was giving me a similar problem, when there was too much stress on the card the screen would go black and I would have to restart. the card was simply broken. the bad thing is that HIS didnīt agree (they reparied the card once, then it was fine for a few days until it broke again, then the second time I send it in they rejected the card) and so I have a useless card now that can only run 2d and crashes after 10minutes or so of 3d. however it could still run 3dmark05 over night over and over for some reason when the shop I had bought it from tested it. it was definitely the gpu that was the problem because changing to a x700pro solved it. its not the drivers either, reinstalling the card didnīt change anything. the temperatures where ok too.
so if you can, try another gpu (power usage shouldnt be much different at best). if the problem still occours its something else. if not then send the card to HIS and pray.

Well, it seems like it is the problem. I would have wish for something else, but it's like it is.. I will try to find another GPU, thanks for your answer.
If I have bought my Vcard on Internet, should I send the card to the seller or to HIS ? And what about the time they needed to send you back your card ?

send it directly to HIS (if you find out it is the problem after trying a different gpu). sending it to the shop you bought it at only makes the waiting time longer and there can be complications. for example my old be quiet p5 520w power supply that broke was screwed up somehow by the shop I bought it at, they only gave me a check of 29 instead of a new one which is pretty much not enough to buy one of similar quality. when I asked be quiet they told me I should have sent it by myself and its my own fault.
the waiting time is usually a month (4-6 weeks is the general saying)

I have just played with Kc | nade maeggs for one hour, and no crash. Sounds like my card doesn't want to go back in a boat to HIS headquarter.
I will see if it occures this evening. If it does, I will seek an old AGP card.
I just hope that I won't have to wait one month..

I recomend just Updateing From AGP to PCI,cuz a good AGP card is rare nowdays(Well, atleast as i know it) and as i heard,AGP arent selling out these days and most of the new cards are On PCI

Well, if I was rich, why not. It isn't the case, so I will use AGP until my computer burns.
Thanks for the proposition mate.

Yes, but after only 11 month using my actual graphic card.. If I have to replace it, I will follow your advices, thanks.
I've just played one hour on full TSGK Server I, where the Vcard was very stressed, then I've crashed alone on server II, so it doesn't come from the GPU usage.

I think I'm going to buy a X1950 512Mb for christmas. I hope it's the best for AGP.
I hope it does come from the Vcard, otherwise I'm screwed.
