If you dont do extreme overclock i strongly recommend AMD
if you are a overclocker and a regular bencher, use intel
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2Ghz each core)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (pretty much the same)
all depends on your price range!

shop items are stored in a cookie I think thats why only you can see them. you have to write the items or give their specific links.

Would have been nice if you could have just written em out, rather than ask us to open each link.
I have built my last 3 computers and one thing i would say is that if you aren't all that experince with thinks like drivers, sata drives etc then buy a new PC. You will have teething troubles with a self build. Hope you don't think i'm being patronising, just trying to help.

then you will never learn. you have to make a beginning and after you build your first one its easy and you get what you want for lesser money.

i plan on using 2 500 gb sata drives. can i use 2 with this setup. also will i have to change the jumpers on the drives? the mobo does come with a disc for the drivers. what other things should i consider when i try to build this mug. when i bought the computer that i use now from ebay, i changed everything from it. I.E. drives, memory, hard drive, updated the bios, video card all that. so i do have some experience with it

uh-uh.
a5200+ works at 5GHz total (combined with 2 cores)
a6400+ works at 6GHz
if they have the same thing as mine, take 600MHz and you have the perfomance

personally i'd go for a core 2 duo or quad core
the sweet spot is at the 6600 chip the dual core and the quad core
and they love to be overclocked

I think you'll need vista for dx10. SLI is pointless at that spec. Re overclocking - again pointless if your rig is already more than capable of handling what's out there at the moment - more relevant for adding processing power in a year or 2. Quadcore is also a bit pointless as few applications use it. Definately go for 2 HDs raid 0 - faster the better and widescreen VDU. Oh and RAM of course. Enjoy

BTW. My personal opinion that folks overlook the full economic costs. Work out how long it will take you to build it. Multiply no. hours it takes by your hourly pay (if you work) and then work out if buying off the shelf is still dearer.

if you're not going to overclock, i recommend the 6400+
it beats the E6600 easily

there are no jumpers for s-ata unless you use s-ata 2 hdds with an s-ata 1 board.

Whats the point, HL2 still runs on a single amd3200+ processor and 1 graphics card. I'll sell you mine and keep the change from what you where going to spend, cause what other game WOULD you want to run

You are robbing yourself when you dont buy a core 2 quad, look how cheap they are!..the price/performance ratio is waayyy better than AMD. AMD lost this round.

may be great, but its better to spend less and have a higher "frequency of pc buying". you can use a pc for 2 years and buy a new one, thats way better than buying the maximum possible once and then keep it for longer than 2 years. its not that much faster anyway. only buy the max if you can afford to buy it again after 2 years.

AMD hasent even released their Quad-Core yet
Intels best quad core scored 27.000 marks in 3Dmark06, with two squezed 8800 Ultras, with each core OVERCLOCKED AT 5GHZ, water cooled
Phenom scored 30.037 overclocked at 3.0 ghz each core, air cooled
Get some info's before making assumptions doctor freeman!

Dont buy their Quad-core
Intel's quad core will only stop beeing shitty when they release their Nehalem
its made in the BIOS, i dont recomend overclock without flashing the bios first

That was either faked or with triple Crossfire X2900
In fact:
We dont know how fast the Phenom will be. And we dont know when it is buyable; the Paperlaunch is soon....
We know how fast the Kentsfield (C2Q) is now.
Yorkfield will be 10-30% faster than Kentsfield.
PS. An X2 6400 works with 3,2Ghz.
An Core2 CPU is 30% faster per clock

Kentsfield and Yorkfield is a piece of complete shit compared to the phenom technology
first phenom comes 10th september, maybe sooner.
i bet people will only buy Penryn because it supports SSE4
and the cpu only suports 43 out of the 57 instructions
AMD is going to release a CPU (forgot its codename) featuring some new virtualization and TDP improvements
plus SSE5
