yes, but it should be a wired one. wireless is still in its beta stage in my opinion and should be avoided.

I have a FRITZ!Box 2170 router but I dont know if you can buy this outside of germany. just dont forget to install a tool like netlimiter to limit the down/up speed for your father so you can play on...
