HDR Pictures |
|
I checked out the manual mode of my compact camera and noticed I can set the exposure or whatever the +/- button does so that means I can make HDR pictures with it. after having seen some of the artworks of people online I was very interested in this kind of photograpy but I thought without the proper camera thats not possible. but why not give it a try? so I went to some nice park to try it out. I used a camera stand but I couldnīt avoid the wind messing with the trees etc.
I havenīt ever done this before so the results arenīt too good and not at their full potential yet, but they look improved to me, not in a realistic way but more in a kind of artwork way. with a better camera someday in the future and more experience Iīll try to create much more brilliant pictures.
I also made 2 eye-cancer variants that seem to burst from details.
the way this works:
-you take 3 pictures with your camera: EV-2, EV0 and EV+2.
-you then open them up in a hdr program, I used Photomatix. Photoshop can do hdr as well but I found it to be useless.
-you can then set how much of hdr and other settings you want and save the image. its really easy, even if you have no clue what things do you can directly see the result so its no problem.
I posted the EV0 (pretty much how the pictures would normally look) and then the HDR version.

If seen this type of picture (hdr) before and have quite a few from various locations/poeple.
I didn't realise how simple a process this was, 3 pics and a graphics program. This is my 1st attempt and i think i'm now hooked

This is my largest koi and she sits just in front of the airiator (air bubble stone deep in the water) hence the water flecks in the foreground
Full size pic can be emailed to you for a small commision

2 weeks ago I didnīt sleep all night and at 6 in the morning I decided to go to the local lake and get some hdr pictures. I got some good pictures but it was too dark, the sun had just gone out and the trees were making too many shadows. my camera seems at the limit of whats possible, creates a lot of noise. the auto mode however created clear images without noise. this gave me an idea, how about just using 1 picture? it really works, just have 3 exact copies of the image in one folder and open them with photomatix. select +2 on the upper picture, automatix will automatically call the rest 0 and -2 and set the exposures and then you can create your hdr picture. so go ahead and work on your holiday pics now!
I will post some new hdr pics soon. meanwhile, this one I made from 1 jpg for example:

Shot at Farmleigh
This is subtle hdr work, was used here,to show off the light rays coming in thru the glass.
Shot at Garden of Remembrance
this is the not so subtle, painting look hdr style.
It takes alot of tweaks to do,shooting in raw will give you the flexibility you need when it comes to color manipulation. It gives the program you use to create your hdr more color and light data to come up with a good tone map.

Went down to the beach today with the family
2nd pic is along the beach and if you look on the horizon directly down the beach you will see a rectangle shape and a dome, this is siezwell A & B power stations ( nuclear )
1st pic is the mid section of southwold pier and camera is sitting on top of wooden post (called a groin) which is in the for ground, as i didn't have a stand with me.
My camera has a auto 3 shot setting which will only alllow +-1 EV. I can do +-2EV but only manually and i didn't have my tripod with me, so these where free hand burst mode

Although the picture is not drasticly changed, this tech. has breathed life and depth into a fairly washed out image
