does someone sit around bored and decide to try and get someones account?

even then, how is he able to send it to so many people?

It's a bit like the msn virusses. When they open, they spread themselves over your pc and automatically send to everyone on the contact list. Am not a virus programmer myself but I can imagine it doesn't take a whole lot of coding to make something like that. I once saw an exe file that started 1000 notepad files when clicked on making old computers hang and automatically opening a new file when an old one's shut down. It was only a few lines of code when I looked at the source.

The virus's themselves are usually pretty complicated though. The ones that are hard to detect at least.
