http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/6816481/Google-and-Facebook-launch-URL-shorteners.html

Am I the only one that thinks these are bad idea?

I refuse to visit them as on face surface they simply look like dodgy URL's that is going to take you to some dodgy Hack / scam site and steal all your details.

I always judge visiting a site by looking at its address and making sure it 'looks' valid. Anything that looks like www.asfv.fb im going to avoid incase its a bad link.

Or am I getting old and not keeping up with technology like i used to.

Thoughts please.

I also find this annoying. the link is made dependent of the referrer, so if the referrer closes or is down so is the link. without seeing the link you could get linked to a horrible/brilliant rick astley webpage without knowing about it.

I agree although they are handy for places like Twitter where you cannot always use the full url as they don't fit due to the character limit.
