An injustice righted is soon to be celebrated! Subject description: (for the Americans, that is) - December 4th or 5th...depending on who you ask |
|
So, on January 29, 1919 a great injustice was brought upon the American people - The 18th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. The outlaw of intoxicating beverages - Prohibition as it is commonly known. The ability to legally have a cold one, get tipsy, get sloshed, or get totally sh*t-faced was taken away from the American people.
But 75 years ago this Friday (or Thursday according to some people...to many people, really) (- December 4th or 5th...or both )), all was set right again. For on December 5th, 1933 the 21st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was fully ratified and signed into law by the venerable FDR...thereby giving the American people the right to legally enjoy booze one again...so long as their state allowed it (most did, but some states in the south were total douchebags....like Kansas).
(Although, due to an oversight by everyone entranced by the prospect of once again enjoying a beer or wine or whiskey, the homebrewing of beer was still illegal, while the home-making of wine was totally okay. (The homebrewing of beer didn't become legal in the U.S.A. until the Godly hand of Jimmy Carter signed a bill into law in 1979 stating that individual States were to restrict the brewing of beer as they saw fit....most states didn't give a crap...so the homebrewing of beer was totally allowed).)
So this Thursday or Friday toss back a tasty alcoholic beverage (especially you Americans!) for the repeal of Prohibition in the United States of America!
This has been a Plasmo Public Service Announcement.
