Boooze!! Subject description: Reccomend me some nice beer |
|
I like to think that I don't drink for the sake of getting drunk but rather for the taste of the drink itself, so with that in mind...
Ok people of the TSGK forum, specifically Plamso, recommend me some nice beer. I currently am a fan of Staropramen, Eridigner, and Tyskie and due to the wonders of the internet I can order other beers. I do have some things which I will not drink however, namely;
anything mainstream American eg: Budweiser, Coors etc, due to the fact that it is disgusting and, on a similar note, anything which makes me feel like crap the next day.
Recommend away !1

I much prefer the hard stuff but as beer is concerned, Paulaner Salvator is my ultimate choice.

I actually like almost all beers I've tasted until now
Mainstream Belgian beers - Jupiler and Stella
Beers of my region (West of the Flanders) - Rodenbach
Other : Duvel Moortgat (my favourite, but if you have more than four you don't know what you're doing anymore )
Also Kasteel(bier) (2 names). It's not as good as Duvel ; it's the only thing the town where I live is known for in Belgium ^^
http://rodenbach.be/
http://duvel.be/
http://kasteelbier.be/
The brewery of rodenbach beers is actually in a 1km radius of my school

I love Lowenbrau (on draught), but cans are good also.
Also if you can get it, the original czech beer budvar (brewed in budweis), not budweiser, that is shit.

I'm primarily versed in American micro-brews, with North Coast, Great Lakes, and Bells being my favorite brewers for consistently awesome beer, but I'll try to help with stuff that you might be able to find in Ireland.
Based on your current preferences, you should give the brews of Spaten and Hacker-Pschorr a taste. Both breweries make some killer wheat beers. Give the hefeweizens a try.
Ayinger Celebrator is an awesome doppelbock, and Ayinger's hefeweizen is good too.
Samuel Smith also makes some tasty beers in a large number of styles. I'm drinking their oatmeal stout and my tongue approves. The porter is mighty tasty too. Both of those beers are quite dark, so you might not like em much, but I've heard good things about the nut brown and pale ales too. They're based in England so I hope they would make the short jump to the Emerald Isle.
If you're feeling adventerous, you could give the brews of Chimay a try. Chimay is a highly regarded brewer of Belgian Trappist ales. And if you spring for the 750mL bottle, it comes corked...which is just cool. Beer with a cork...ahhh what a wonderful world we live in!
St. Bernardus is another killer Belgian brewer. Give their Witbier a try if you want something on the light side, or go straight for the Abt 12 for a meal in a bottle (the 10% ABV will make you nice and toasty pretty quick).
I'll leave it at that because I have to go pick up a pizza right now. For more information on beer check out

I know you siad non of the commercial rubbish but that tis all I drink.....
Carling - the brewing industrie's answer to alcholic Wee, it tastes nice Cold (Fresh from the tap, leave it an hour and you'll see soon why its called Wee) and I can consume 10 pints without the fear of a bad hangover the next day. Great for a weekday night when you know work looms early the next day.
Stella - Classic. Good ol wife beater beer! This gets you drunk really quick, and im usually caned after 8 pints of this (Im a light drinker) The hangover is the equilvelent of getting hit by a Bus travelling 30 mph, so not recommended unless you have no work, and 10 asprin to see you through the next day.
Guiness - Makes a great change from the usual posion. Smooth as hell, great if you want a slow night. However beware when you visit the toilet next day, the colour of excrement turns a nasty nasty shade.
Not a beer, but, Magners - One of the nicest Ciders ive tried, however its usually expensive, and your mates will call you a ponce for drinking it.

Magners might be by definition a cider { been in the same place as an apple}. Its a designer apple drink. I might be a bit blind but do I notice a slight tinge of pink in the glass?
For less than the price of a bottle of Magners which is about the same ABV as beer, for 1.67 pounds, you can buy the same volume of Morrisons own brand single orchard cider at ABV 7.3% Or, better still, at the same price, a 1/2 litre of Westons Special Reserve at ABV 8.2%
All of the main supermarket chains will supply single orchard/single apple premium grade cider for arround the same price.
I also drink Merrydown dry vintage which comes in at 1.99 pounds per litre and has an ABV of 6.5% but they have changed the process and it is definately not as good as it was 2 years ago.
I won't even metion the el cheepo brands but some of the lower ABV ciders like Orchard Mill ABV 5% (Tesco) are quite palatable.
If you are intent on embarking on the road to ruin you can try a proper cloudy high ABV cider from Sommerset. Mega fast acting and mega hangover. Once tasted never forgotten

Magners is called by its original name in Ireland, "Bulmers". You can be sure that Raffa has tried it during one of his many 'knacker drinking' episodes.
Hang-overs in my extensive experience are directly related to age, lack of sleep, and dehydration. I generally drink lagers or wine over 'ales'. Wine is an excellent thing to get into as it gives you something to talk about with the girls. Only Heidis and Berthas drink ales. Plasmo only dates Heidis and Berthas. Zog's real name is Bertha.

They may at 1st, but when you point out that the average larger is about 4-5% and cider is usually >6%. You then get to point out that there drink (beer) is a meer shandy against the mans drink of Cider.

Having drank in England I can safely say I would rather just drink the tap water xD
Beer that goes flat after two minutes, is stale, and generally tastes like crap. I would not recommend drinking Guinness abroad, they don't let it settle ...

I have indeed. I made the mistake of bringing a crate of Strongbow to Oxegen (Music festival) once, needless to say I can't touch cider now without feeling queasy ..

Knackers FTW!
some definitions of Urban Dictionary
"Someone who is found smoking a joint down the back of Dublin Bus i.e the 13A
During the bus journey they will treat the other passengers to all the ringtones in their mobile phone. Mainly up to date rubbish dance tunes, e.g eric prydz call on me.
did you see that knacker down the back of the 13a? "
"1) originaly this was used as a nickname given to the bad members of the traveling community of the united Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland.
2) but now it can be used to describe anyone who is a scumbag/rough, not just travellers
3) also means testicles "
last thing there was the awesomest! qoute!
""C'mear yow, give oos a fo**ing Yaro boss or I'll fo**ing box ya" said the knacker. "

I'd be more than willing to share a fine ale with the few Heidis I've met, Zog included. Berthas....do they name people Bertha these days? Post 1946 Adolfs probably outnumber post 1946 Berthas....
And Zog, since we are apparently engaged in a long distance relationship, do you have any beard-care tips for the young and naive dude with a beard?
And lagers......high maintenance beers of the world. Not only do they take longer to ferment, they need to do so at colder temperatures (40-60 degrees Fahrenheit). Sure, the result is a smoother beer, but ultimately, when I drink beer I want to be in flavor country. I'll take a porter, dry-Irish stout, or brown ale over the likes of a pilsner or bock any day of the week.

Leffe Brun is the one for me - I could drink that stuff all day (if only real life did not get in the way). I just got back from Prague and they have some nice dark beers over there - there is a lovely one called Krusovice Cerne. Staropramen is for the noobs...
I thought all you oirish folk drunk was cider? Followed by a nice potato and a jig.
