Hmmm. It's $54.44 incl vat on Steam which is about €40. I'm gonna take a chance and see if my local retailer (Game) is selling it for less.

I see that their UK preorder price is £27 (plus double reward points) which is about €35.

So chances are that Steam shop is once again going to rip us off. It really peeves me - they could have a great online store if they didn't take the piss out of their customers. No pacakaging, or transport costs plus they have free advertising direct to your PC... yet they still can't manage to be fair priced.

Bah!

maybe you are paying for the steam service, that you can download the game anytime and anywhere you want. since there is not much else than steam out there that does the same job they can set the price to their liking.

Aha! That's all well and good, but, but what happens if your account is robbed? Not to mention they charge VAT when it's not chargeable. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but it's not value for money! It should be a competitive price. It's not. So I won't buy it on Steam!

I had exactly the same thoughts when it was about buying Bioshock some time ago.

I decided to get the Non-Steam version from the local dealer and got a nice Metal-Boxed DVD in exchange for less money then I would have needed to pay for the Steam-Version. I'm pretty sure I will do the same with Left4Dead should I ever get it. High price + VAT in exchange for... nothing but endless downloading doesn't seem attractive to me.

I could life without the DVD and package but the price for the DL-Version would need to be significant below the DVD-Version.

Not ordering it online in order to increase Valve's win due to the saved DVD production, packaging and shipping costs.

the game doesnt sound interesting for now... like there are many other nicer games out there Razz (fall out 3 *drooooooooooooooooooooool* gears of war 2 *drooooooooooooooooooool* fable 2 *drooooooooooool* ) and the mods that are out there with zombies are plenty (using the source engine i mean)... so what makes this so special... we shall see...

another nice thing about buying games from the shop is that you can sell it after playing it. its possible to resell a game for just a few € less than what you bought it for on ebay.

So I am.
