it may sound weird but try it, put your hand on wasd and see. you dont have to move fingers much so you stay on the wasd keys, if I try to use the number buttons above I have to lift my hand up a bit and this 1 second can cost you your life.
slam and rpg I dont use, so I forgot them. so c can be rpg and v can be slam. crowbar is capslock, I wouldn´t forget that.

oh and having long thin flexible fingers helps too :p |
-Noobish question-
Checked fast weapon switch last night and had fifteen minutes to "kill" (pun somewhat intended), and did not notice any changes. How/Why/What should this do? assistance is appreciated.

It may seem like a small change now but the more you use it you'll notice split second frags you probably would've missed if you used that extra mouse click to switch.

dont use the scroll wheel to select weapons, assign buttons to each weapon and your gameplay will be greatly improved after you get used it.

dude gravity gun on your mouse? thats insane ^^
you need to be able to pull out gravity gun fast so assigning that weapon to a key is best, you can push a key faster than you can click the wheel, OR IS THAT JUST ME?!

Not everyone is the same I find scrolling the mouse wheel to select weapons is faster then a key button.

thats because you haven´t properly learned using keys and using the right keys, what fits you best and not just standard. I cant use standard, its way too hard. I recommend putting them around the wasd keys.

my keys are around wasd keys and i have 3 weapons(not gravity gun) on my mouse wheel. crossbow scrldown, shotgun scrlup, and magnum mouse 3.
but I guess i have a reeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally crappy mouse so pressing the wheel down is harder than scrolling up or down or pressing a key.

why is the gravgun so hard to reach? I recommend putting it on f or something else easy.
