For our resident photographers,
I found this picture yesterday and it's sweet, check it out.
Apparently it is from NASA taken on 7/4/08.

Nice pic.
Is it a composite? There are blurred figures at the shorline yet the lightning strike (which would only appear for a split second is clear). Also the shadows point in different directions.
Feel free to say "Duh - Diet like we know". But if you do say that I'll hold a grudge against you until your dying day.

Could be, im not sure if I would risk watching fireworks with a bad ass thunderstorm not that far away.
But cool picture, nice find

Probably a longer exposure usually used for photographing lightning and fireworks which would make items in the foreground blurred due to motion.

Nice pick BTW!

It is a well know digital composition by Antti Kemppainen.
It is actually made with 3 differents photograph, as the result of a single shot for that kind of scenary would have been nothing else than a crazy dominant red due to the very very high exposure time and the firework (so just impossible).
Nice digital composition, but not a pure photography (which is dying since everyone is now just using computer to enhance crappy picture or to fake amazing events while claiming they aren't modified like the HDR bullshit... This doesn't concern that one which is a very nice work and requires a real photography skill anyway).

Imho the HDR technique and other photo enhancement techniques aren't bullshit True, these days it's possible to lack skill in photography and have great pictures as result anyway, but I think things like HDR are a whole different branch of photography, not comparaible to "normal" photos. Just my 2 cents on that, it just seems a bit harsh to call every computerised photograph enhancement 'bullshit'
I still make normal photos btw
