I have already played a game in excel. It was a skeet shoot. I reminded me of Comadore 64 or Acorn Electron graphics. Great oaks from little acorns grow. 
Seriously, excel does have some issues with counting ..... http://www.itpro.co.uk/blogs/jonh/2007/09/25/excel-cant-count-and-heres-proof/ So the messiah has not come. Inevitably when you are dealing with giga pixels, there must be errors.
