What do you guys think about the pulse rifle? In my opinion, it's equal to the smg, just a spray and pray kind of a weapon. Except of course for the combine ball, that requires more skill. Now apparently, based on the points given for a kill with a pulse rifle in the ranking system, the pulse rifle takes more skill than a smg. This is not another rant at the points system, but I am just wondering why this difference is in place.

Good question. I think it can be a bit more difficult what with the kickback it has. I don't like it much. Makes a nasty sound. Very Happy But it is lovely for the orbs. Beautiful, lovely, shiney orbs. mmmmmmm.

I dont like it, Iīm not very effective with it. its a hard to use weapon, if you are bad with it a weaker enemy with the smg is stronger than you.

I think it gives more points because it's harder to find. It's not like there's plenty of Pulse rifles laying around everywhere.

It balances out pretty well with the smg, it may have a smaller clipsize/max ammo, but it reloads fast. It recoiles more, but it does more damage. So the point system rewards finding the rifle more than the skill it takes to use it?

Exactly, you will not properly start a game with an ar2 in your inventory so in effect it does take more skill to obtain, as far as using the weapon it is highly accurate in comparison to the smg and does some serious damage.

And don't get me started with orbs there's no hiding from mah orbs ;p

hu? you mean that little glowing thing you fire about, it bounces round and you hope it hits a player or two? I would think its more skillfull to aim the bullets, then "fire and hope" ... (combine ball is like my fav weapon thou im just making a point Razz )
Ive said before i have no problem using any weapon to kill you with, aslong as the end result is satisfactory, then im satisfied Cool

one thing I wonder is, can there be ball spam in killboxes? I know using it too much in lockdown etc. is very bad but what about killboxes, you need some good skill to use it well.

I can spam domebox no problem, 10 orbs one after another, but sometimes still they hit nothing (if I just blindly fire them off) so it's hit or miss for the most part.

I dno, it is a case of luck sometimes but you see some players that always hit dozens of players with a ball every mact while others hit none. You have to think a bit before firing it and combined with a good portion of luck you pretty much have the biggest chance of having a bunch I think.

I have no problem with the ar2 rifle I don't see it as a weak SMG.
I don't know why some people don't like the ar2 rifle, they will run out of weapons to choose from soon. Laughing

I agree with Shimmy on this one. The sound is vicious. Especially when backed by 800 watts of simulated 6.1 surround sound. hehe

But my fav is still the crack of the mag. grr

only thing you can really spam with is smg nades and rpg, any other weapon can be stopped technically, i.e catch the ball and fire it back, so I don't really count it as spam, and if it is, well call me a Mr Spam

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I'm all for the AR2... then again, I'm all for the SMG and the RPG as well.....anyway, any weapon has it's place in this game, and discriminating against any weapon is just plain silly....

Same goes for all weapons, RPG and SMG haters......yeah....I said it....RPG and SMG are legit....if you can't take em down, that's your problem...no need to ruin others fun for your ideals....

That's all I'll say about that....all weapons ftw!

If you can't take it, suck it up, buttercup....

All other things being equal, the rifle is win against the smg every time.
I like the sound it makes, that chugging sound.
It sounds much better than the annoying SMG.

The pistol sounds pretty bad also, but is a great undervalued finisher, or even longer range attack if your good with it.

Running the High Rez textures and the orbs look AWESOME- bluish and shiny.

The annoyance of the smg sound is nothing in comparison to the glock in Half Life 1 dm. Coupled with the 56k modem i had at the time I found HL1dm really annoying Evil or Very Mad

P.S. Below is an example of a typical HL1DM game Wink
