thinking of running some hl2dm cups |
|
I've been working on a site for a while, which lets you run your own leagues and cups etc. Anyway, I've been wanting to get a quick cup (or cups) going to give it a test run, and since hl2dm is pretty much the only game I play online at the moment, I thought I'd try it with that. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the word out though, so I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone was interested in taking part?
The site's here: http://www.teamgamingnetwork.com

well it was a copy 'n' paste of a previous thread I'd made on a different forum, but other than that there's nothing iffy about it
I don't usually post about my sites on other people's, plus I did check if it'd be ok first.

The site feels good and looks nice but fact is that the half life community isn't as big as for example the CSS community so you'll have a hard time getting lots of players and teams and keep the thing active.

The site can run leagues and cups for any game, it's not just limited to half life 2, which can be run by anyone, not just me I'm just after giving it a bit of a test run with real people and clans instead of the fake ones I tested it with, and since I've only really played hl2dm recently, and as it's a pretty simple DM type gameplay, I decided to use that.

site looks great mate and works well but to generate alot of interest you gonna have to branch out the word a bit more
Id start with CS:S and Call of Duty 4, that is wat alot of people are playing at the moment.
I'd also start yourself an Offical TGN cup/league or something like that, not just user/clan created cups/leagues.
You can then have like an Offical League/Cup, then the clan run leagues/Cups, if that makes sense.
You can definately do it mate as its a nice easy to use site that runs fast, unlike some of the other sites (ESL urgh!) out there.
One problem though, your gonna have to throw money at it to make it really take off. Spend money renting a couple of servers just so players can have a server to use. It'll generate interest and get people playing. Start one of them Steam groups and get anyone and everyone to join it! Free advertising within Steam friends aint bad, specially if you can get over 1000 people to join. Offer incentives for joining, like an Extra Games stats section if a member gets Five referrals or something (Bit like ESL again). Without alotta word of mouth and a bit of money mate, you will struggle to make it popular, but you never know

thanks for the comments I do intend to get it going with more popular (and recent) games, but the hl2dm ones were originally to give the site a proper test run, and make sure everything works as it should.
I've got a server 'sponsor' sorted, but unfortunately he's away until the new year, but hopefully that'll bring more people in. I don't mind spending money to get the word out, I tried adwords for a while, but although it brought visitors, it didn't bring members. Maybe that's not the right place to advertise it So in the meantime I've been confusing forum members by turning up and advertising on their sites
