actualy nvidia was pissed at valve for leaving them out, and ATi was pissed at valve for having features only for nvidia cards

G80 cards warmup really hard, but that piece of sillicone can take up all that heat Very Happy

I was running 2 radeon 1950 cards together in crossfire but always got display driver crashes in games Crying or Very sad

BUT just as an experiment I removed 1 of them and now I get no driver crashes AND 20 more fps in most maps. Laughing

as for weather to go ati or nvidia who knows I recon one is good for some stuff and the other is good for other things so all in all prob not much to chose between them...

I had a great 3 or so years with an ATI 9700, and am now having a great time with an nVidia 8800gts (soon to be GT Very Happy

). Either way, both companies are great. Sure, nvidia kicked ATI's ass this generation, but ATI really came out of left field with the 9700 back in the day and has stepped up with their 3800 series. It is an exciting time for those looking for a new GPU. I just wish I didn't buy an 8800gts 3 months ago!

As for any sort of dual gpu running, it doesn't always work for both nvidia and ati. If you're lucky then you'll get a good performance boost running sli or sli, but most games don't have great support for it yet (much like dual core CPU's).

Regardless, it's a great time for GPUs. An 8800gt performing near 8800gtx levels for a couple hundred bucks cheaper, and ATI coming pretty close to that as well at an equivalent price point (and cheaper in some cases) A good time for GPU buyers indeed...

Now if only hops could follow the trend of GPU's I'd be a happy man Even happier if Illinois didn't tax alcohol so much.. Very Happy

My work pc graphics card is nvidia 64mb no problems and with no driver updates. Cool

My gaming pc graphics card is ATI Radeon 9200 128mb is even more stable maybe thats cause there's been alot of driver updates for it. Laughing

And now im getting ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO 512mb cause it's time to update I think. I got this card mainly cause I liked the price and it's powerful. Smile

My experience with both: Until the 8800s, ATI had better image, NV had SLI, ATI run hotter and use more power.
The NV 7000 series has a grainy image.
My X800 was a great card, but not a powerhouse.

The real difference now is architecture and drivers.
The unified NV arch. is more advanced.
ATI has kept up with horsepower.
ATI is in trouble.

As I reach down toward my PC case on a daily basis,
I prepare myself because I know as soon as I press that button I am letting loose a monster powerplant of a GPU that the average mind possibly can't comprehend.

As it's clearly audible hum cuts through the morning air I am reminded of a simpler time, a time when 16 bits would bring cheer to the most critical of people.

No time for that now though, it's time to let loose the juice of the GEFORCE FX5200 128mb PCI!!!!!!!!!

As it struggles to maintain 25 fps with every detail removed from the game (blood,spray logos, bulletholes, eyeballs?) I lean down and try to convince it that it is the greatest and cannot be contained, just then it happens, my enemy approaches launching smg nades and priming his primary grenade in an attempt to finish me off.

This is it geforce, don't let me down!

He strafes left, I dodge and gain the high ground, BOOM the first explosion....20fps now, still enough to achieve victory surely, I strafe right and launch upward, soaring through they skies like a bird, they look like ants from here, no wait they look more like post cut grass (with less detail) but I digress as I'm airborne, moving on.......

Soaring through the air I see it, the grav nade, soaring through the air right for me, this opponent is no slouch, he chose to air nade me, and it is accurate, why not just catch the grenade?!?!?!

As I attempt to catch the nade while using the geforce fx 5200 I am reminded of trying to get a grip on a tic tac breath mint with my eyes blindfolded, fingernails cut and hands saturated in cooking oil, but compared to this that would be easy.

BOOM the nade explodes launching me further through the air, 15 fps and dropping as the stray bullets rain past me as if I hit a fire hydrant with my car.

Surely this opponent will finish me off now as my GPU gains temperature by the second, but no..........he gave up one me, now is my chance!

I strafe right cutting through the air like a starved falcon during a lemming migration, rip the side off of my case, the GPU is red hot now!

While still descending from the upper reaches of domebox I react in a flurry, drinking the remaining last drops of mountain dew I dump the ice cubes on top of the nvidia, this should cool it down enough to get me to the needed 25 fps to make short work of my opponent!!!!

Surely his days are numbered now.....

It's no use, the GPU has reached such a temperature the water evaporated before making contact Sad

10 fps now.....As I grab for what should be a health pack but looks like a pillow with cake frosting on it my chances of demise plummet in percentage, I do a 180 degree turn, there he is, waiting for me to see his face before he delivers the killshot, the jokes on him though, I can't see anything!

Lucky for me the 6 and a half minutes required to restart my game has cooled the geforce enough to reload with 25 fps.

It is go time ghost, as I make short work of dispatching my previous opponent with my trusty 357 the momentum shifts into my favor, not a place you want momentum to be.

I launch into the air once more, finger caressing secondary fire in a gentle yet frantic impatience to launch that smg nade as an opening for destruction followed up by a dessert tray of accurate 357 doom.

So many targets, gotta choose ghost, unnamed (don't act like you wouldn't) headshot he's down, easy.Who is next ghost, oh snaps its MR.PWNPANTS himself, standing on top of the highest ramp, as if to say "I'm far too skilled to be on the floor with the likes of you rabble"

He saw me, he fires once, a miss, a second shot, I'm hit.......45 health now, enough for me.

Just then it happens, smg spray coming from what seems like the depths of hell itself, distracting me while slowly littering my health from a sturdy 45 to 15 in no time, then it happens, HEADSHOT PWNAG3PWN3RH3ADSH0TKINGWTFLAWL!!!!

I'm down, the sound of my combine prison guard flatlining sends chills down my spine, no matter, it was a good shot even from a camping stance,

"n1" I say.
He responds......LAWL.....

"This guy must be good" I think to myself, surely the shot meant nothing to him and was a short afterthought on his account.

I need to stop him, or none will survive.

Immediately on my respawn I see him, he is taking cover behind the dumpster a real mans strategy.I grab the two stray smg nades and furiously click secondary fire and deliver enough splash damage to make the Terminator proud, he seeks refuge further behind the dumpster but it is too late, I speedskate toward him at 500+ velocity so fast you could see* the spit frothing from my rapidly salivating mouth (*you can see it provided you are not using a geforcefx5200).

My stunstick is sturdy and thirsts for rebel flesh, I cut left behind the dumpster so fast you could see* the shock in his eyes, surely he didn't expect me for at least another 7 seconds.......not this ninaj hobo....

The sound rings through the dome with great force, as if the map were built on a foundation of acoustics alone it sounds perfect.

10 fps now, no worries, it's over now.

A good fight nothing less, as I walk toward my battered opponent I sit with him to chat, he seems so normal, but I'm not fooled.

The random cursings through his microphone and highly inconsistent spelling in the chat windows reminds me this guy doesn't have time for spelling nor many of the finer things in life, he was built to dominate the virtual world.

I speak to him, "good game there man!"

His silence says enough, surely a warrior of his magnitude has no experience nursing a loss, he must be taking this hard.

I say "look man don't get mad about it and no I do not script jump"

He again responds "LAWL"

I take his laughter as i sign of truce between us all, maybe this guy isn't such a bad guy once you talk to him.

As a matter of fact he may very well be a great person!!!!!!
His mind an untapped source of possible wisdom, hell he may be the guy that cures the AIDS virus for all we know, not my place to assume he is some dumb mad kid.
