you are asking in the wrong forum, tsgk will not tolerate illegal activities, so you should find a better fitting forum to ask about this. _________________

errr...
i didnt realize this topic would cause such a fuss. all i asked was where to download songs. you guys worry too much . Big deal if downloading is illegal. im not about to go out and buy a CD just to rip the songs i want off of it. waste of time and cash. i think countries have better things to worry about than illegal downloading. thanks to the suggestions.
now i go watch football \w/

Totally agree here
You would be stupid to buy a record in the stores these days...

a quick roundup of the things about music that I read on digg and reddit:
-the musicians only get a small fraction of the money, the big part of it goes to the music industry, the bad middlemen.
-its proven that people who download music are a lot more likely to buy cds than people who dont download. like breen said you need to try it out, or else you may be scared to buy a cd you dont like and buy lesser cds.
-one major letdown is the high price of music. many people say they would buy cds if the prices were lower.
-there is an interesting project by radiohead, they made their latest cd downloadable for the money you want to pay for it. so you could pay 15, 5, etc. or you could even download it for free. this way people who think it costs too much would pay as much as they think its worth and those who liked things free get it for free. overall they would make more money than what a record company would pay them. and thats a really low amount compared to what the record companies keep for themselves, most of the money artists make is from live concerts, not cd sales. _________________

Hmm, so by downloading it for free u even take that small amount of money away from them...?

I know many people who only download and never buy a CD anymore. And who buys CD blindly? You can perfectly go to a CD store and listen to them before u buy them.

How low? As low as the price for a Radiohead album (see below)?

An interesting note: Comscore claimed that "60 percent of fans who downloaded In Rainbows paid nothing for the tracks." Those who paid paid 4.21 in average. Including the free downloads, the price is 1.59. (Radiohead denied this: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1573841/20071108/radiohead.jhtml )
It's quite interesting that even though u could have downloaded it for free & legally from the official website, the album immedately appeared on websites and p2p communities. Probably it's just a matter of habit or lazyness.
/end of rant
Btw, here in Switzerland sharing/uploading is illegal, but any downloading is legal, even if the source has been uploaded illegally. _________________

like I said the big part of their income is from concerts. its not like they will become poor people. they should become independant and cut out the middlemen, some bands are starting to do this already.

real fans will buy the cds, but the prices are just too much. also, do you want to hang out in the music store all the time? I often had music I didnt like at first, but after sometime (up to 1 year or more) giving it another chance it turned out to be great. I dont think you will go to the cd store and try out something you didnt like again. there will be people who will still pirate things even if it costs 2.
I listen to japanese music, so I cant just go to the music store. also ordering from japan has high shipping costs.

Iīm not really sure how low, but 10-20 for a cd is really too much. _________________
this is just an example .. but most artists only get around $1 per album sold who are signed to a major record label.
It is in the best interest of bands to sell their records them selfs and charge $3 for their record ONLINE in an mp3 format.. and they will still be making more money then if they were on a major record label.
