Yikes!

Em, here's my settings if it helps. Be sure to allow both hl2 and valve steam in your setting.

Norton annoys me - it takes over your computer and turning it off has no real effect - it will still run updates etc.

i use Avast since 2004, it's the best anti-virus around

and it's free, all you gotta do is register, and you're done.

www.avast.com

On this comp, Avast was disabled since 2006 becausethe license expired..
since 2005.. so when i reinstalled Avast, and register a hole new KEY, Avast asked if i wanted a Virus check on the next both (Offline virii check)

turns out i had 46 virus and trojans

now its allmost as fast as my other had drive

No i think the main point is he should be getting rid of Norton, not only is it a bad virus checker, buts its practically a virus itself.
Copying hundreds of registrys all over the place and leaking so many of your pcs resources to the point that norton is the dominating force of your hard drive and processor power.

"hi im norton, im so important that im gonna take over windows and explorer.... Then im going to lie about viruses you do have, and then about ones you dont have Very Happy... Oh and btw i need to update again, and again, and again. What am i downloading??? Thats none of your damn business, but trust me its important to your pcs safety"

Yeah thats true, but only coz its using so much of my power that a virus makes no differernce to my pcs performance anyway. Thanks norton, your a real gem Very Happy

Fluffy, get rid of it as fast as you can Very Happy

Since I got Norton 2 years ago I've had zero trouble, zero, with virus, spyware etc etc. I will defend it 100%.

Until October when my subscription is up for renewal. Then I'm ditching the thing. Don't know how many times it's interupted my game. Mad

Still. If he's paid for the thing and he's looking for advice... then surely advice about Norton would be more helpful. Say like...

"Did you 'permit all' re steam in the firewall's program control panel". See? That's helpful! Much better than, "You should go out and play football instead of sitting on your arse worrying about a crappy valve game that gets broke every time it's fixed". Or something.

Right then. I've had this problem now. Norton finds a trojan... Rolling Eyes
The only way I found around it that worked for me was to disable norton internet security and antivirus autoprotect.

ah ah

Norton IS a virus !!

In fact it's not really a virus protection, in the last test I've read, Norton detects 50% of viruses only, like microsoft live somethin', kapersky detect 100% of the viruses.
That test was in a lab of the army.
Norton is heavy, not accurate, according to me of course.
I'd rather use bitdefender or kapersky.

This PC I have came with norton and many in the past I had were the same, but it was killing me.
Breen's right avast is totally free but if you do want to buy the pro version I'm sure it's well worth it.Avast has been doing antivirus for almost 2 decades now.

Yes Norton is a virus....Is gives your computer chronic fatigue syndrome or M.E. as it is known in the UK Laughing
Seriously, Norton AV and I go back a long way and there is no way I would have it on a computer. It is resource intensive and slows the whole system down Sad
I have used AVG for a long time now and find it suits my needs.

Ok ok!

As if to prove you all - Norton screwed up my hl2dm yesterday. I'll destroy it - I promise. It's evil. Boooooooooo!

Ummm. Is McAfee any better? Don't flame me!

Yes thats what I use, it doesn't eat shit loads of RAM like McAfee and Norton, and you can close it down when ever you like, unlike McAfee and Norton. The big names really do suxs ass, and its just as good protection, if not better.

the best antivirus software out there is G-Data AntiVirusKit, it uses 2 engines, the Kaspersky-Engine and the BitDefender-Engine. http://www.gdata.de/trade/GB/productview_technische/727/16/

wats crackin mane. I have the same problem. Symantec says that its happening to everybody who has had a virus or a trojan horse on their computer. what you have to do is disable autoprotect, launch your game, minimize your game, then re-enable autoprotect to get around it. Unfortunately you will have to do this until the new update comes in... i believe tommorow. just hold tight man. Once my subscription expires im gonna go Avast.
