I’m very chatty lately… Here’s some questions:

First – anyone got recommendations about mice. I’m using a basic 2 button Dell mouse and have tried twice to upgrade to a better mouse but on each occasion found the new mouse to be disappointing. I know it takes a while to get used to and I need to change settings etc but I was better off with my old one. I wonder if anyone there could recommend one (a well known brand like Logitech etc would be ideal as they’re easy to source).

Second – binding, tips etc. OK I’m a noob on this. Embarassed What’s binding all about? Is this how people can use gravgun and grenades so quickly? To be honest, I probably don’t like grenades because I have to press “5” twice, right click, press “G”, then left click… You’re laughing at me now, aren’t you? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Third – Excuses. What excuses do you use when explaining to your partner that you can’t go to bed when you want to play one more game of HL2 DM? Anyone know a good marriage counsellor? Wink

Diet out…

I use a basic Microsoft optical mouse, 2 buttons and the scroll roll that i never use, i can't play with heavy mouse...

Second – binding, tips etc.

I use the arrow to move and the numpad to switch weapons.
The grenade combo require some training, for me it's 5, left button, 0, left button then trow with right button. Lot of action but i do it like a robot now...

Thanks Osiris,

I took your advice. I said gg to my mouse and pressed my wife's left button.

She slapped me and went to bed.

Where did I go wrong?

If you are looking for good mouse, buy Razer Diamondblack or Copperhead.

I have used basic Logitech mouse and I didn't saw any problems with that mouse. Once I had LAN pary I tested my friends Diamondblack. Then I noticed my Logitech is absolutely sh*t. My friend bought Copperhead and bought his Diamondblack. Now I can't belive to use any basic mice.

Newer use Microsoft or Logitech basics, buy Razer. Wink

Btw, i have bound grenades to mouse 5 and stunstick to mouse 4.
(Mouse 4 and 5 are the buttons what you can press with your thumb.)
There are also mouse 6 and 7 on Diamondblack but those are incompatible with Half-Life (those are same thing as mouse wheel up and down) but it doesn't really matter.
If you some day buy Diamondblack NEVER install the drivers. Otherwise you'll have big problems with binding mouse 4 and 5. Very Happy

Sry for my English.

lol re posts.

I didn't really press my wife! Although I was very tipsy thanks to a nice bottle of Sancerre.

Thanks for the tips. Will have to work on the grenades.

Juize, the Razer looks good. Re not installing drivers - did you rely on windows generic drivers and did the options menu when you were binding the mouse buttons recognise you pressing the other mouse buttons?

Thanks

Yes, I'm using window's generic drivers.

If you have Razer's drivers installed you can normally bind mouse 1,2 and 3.

Of course if you have Razer's drivers installed, you can bind mouse's buttons by Razer drivers. It's possible to bind upper right side and upper left side buttons to windows MOUSE 4 and MOUSE 5. Then you can normally bind those buttons in Half-Life. But you can't bind MOUSE 4 or 5 to lower right and lower left buttons in muose. If you're using windows generic drivers MOUSE 4 and 5 are upper left and lower left buttons. I think it is the most usefull. That's why I'm not using Razer drivers.

There are still one way to bind buttons just as you want (Razer drivers installed). For example: in Razer driver counfiguration you can bind all mouse buttons to any keyboard key. First bind e.g. upper left button to "L". Then in HL2DM bind stunstick to "L". Very Happy

Hope you know what I mean! Wink

Btw, if you're looking for Copperhead, I don't know anything about its drivers. Maybe problem is fixed on those drivers.

I agree with Juize. I had a HP basic 2 button with scroll and it was ok but does not come close to my Razor. The Razor is much smoother and at least for me, fits better to my hand. Smile

I bought an expensive (but very good) mouse, the Logitech MX1000.

It's a very very nice mouse, but playing with it on hl2dm damaged it rapidly (problem with right button after 5 months).

Since I use a basic mouse, least pleasant but more solid.

If you plan to play with your mouse, NEVER buy any wireless. Wired mice are always better.

lol diet.. you were double clicking the mouse eh?..

I do the same thing as you diet.. its all a matter of getting use to it, then you can pull it off fast..

other than that... I just get use to all the actions.. it becomes second nature..

About mice, don't buy a wireless mouse, because they are slower than wired mice and forget the laser mice too (the optical mice are right, but the laser mice sucks). It is impossible to play with it, you can't look around with a laser mouse. And don't use the mouse scroll to change weapon, it's easyer and faster use the keyboard. Thats my advice, and forgive me for me bad english Wink

I think usually optical mice are better than laser mice if you use it for gaming. There are still one exception: Razer Copperhead Very Happy

Interesting to hear your views on the mice. I bought a Keysonic Warp 1600dp laser mouse and it was terrible. Movement was all over the place like it had a mind of its own. I ditched it.
