PostPosted: Mon Oct 02, 2006 07:22    Post subject:  Need some help with translation of a welcome message :)

Hi

I have added a feature in the TopSkills statistics program that can welcome each player in their own language, and I really need some help with the translation..

Here is the text:
Welcome!... <nick> from <your country>

Some countries have a lot of official languages. I'm going to use the language that is most used...

In norwegian this line would be something like:
Velkommen!... <nick> fra Norge

You can post a message here or send a email to me...

I really appreciate your help with this one Smile

Thanks a lot to Osiris_TSGK and [SuN] cstorvik_89 for their help...

Translated so far [134]

Although most people in Ireland speak English, your welcome in our native language (Gaelic) would be:

Dia dhuit <name> ó Éire, fáilte go dtí mo fhreastalaí

Cool

Diet Uisce

LOL Superhebbe - You have a big task ahead of you.

My wife works in Localisation which basically means her company translates languages, software and media into other languages. I asked her if she could recommend any software to help you. She said not to use software because the translation is rarely correct.

If you do use software e.g. http://translate.google.com/translate_t, she suggests you translate language A into language B, and then translate the phrase from language B back to language A to check if the software is accurate. For example, using google...
English: Hello John from Ireland. Welcome to my server
Spanish: Hola Juan de Irlanda. Recepción a mi servidor
Spanish back to English: Hello Juan of Ireland. Reception to my servant

!!

She also suggests that you do not use "," (comma) but use "." (period/full stop) instead as a comma has different usage in various languages.

Good luck

Keep helping him out guys!

hehe, I know the task is big Wink But I have tried a lot of freeware stuff, and none was correct on anything. Gramma or the word "server" Sad

Maybe I should use ! instead of , or . ?

Or maybe your wife can translate all for me for £1 Very Happy

Laughing got this from another dude:
Dude, first off, your Czech translation is... let's say "terrible... Not that it doesn't only make sense, but... "Halo" means "Hallo" - like you say on the phone..
To translate what you have under "czech" is:
"Hallo <nick> according to the Czech republic, to welcome up to my where the wind, there's a coat too..."

So I have changed it... hehe
