do you have any good recommendations which hl2dm maps to play with 4-6 players on a lan meeting? I can think of these so far (+ should be good, - not sure):
+the 3 ko team maps
-killbox_tsgk_v8
-killbox_kbh
+lostvillage
+lostarena
+lockdown
+biohazard
-warlock
-overwatch
-matar
-domebox
-donutbox
+lost base
+combat house
-aim arena b4
-killbox 357 xbow
-magnum
-fy iceworld
+council v2
-deathbox7b
-freerunner
-gunball

its important to get a good first impression for the others as those didn´t really play hl2dm before and dont seem to be burning to play it either, it was just that game that came with hl2. I even posted the 2 free links so there are no excuses Razz so a first 3 solid maps idea to show off the games awesomeness would be good.

maps that empasize on teamplay like ko team should be good maps.
also what map length would you suggest? 20 seems a bit too much, 10 or less maybe? there are like 4-5 other games to play so brief should be the best choice. or should I use a frag limit instead?

is there a way to disable the rpg on all maps?
can server sounds be installed for lan server as well? or do I need to run dedicated server? if yes how do I set the sounds up?

You might think of a small ctf map. Also, a co-op map might be fun. If you can turn ff on for tdm and allow punishments - quite fun.

I think include all stock maps and weapons, let them enjoy the game like the day it was released and build upon that. Then add in the killboxes and the fancy shmancy maps.

Hi

We ran experiment on [ TSF ] Planet Zog now [ TSF ] #4 designed to attract novice players. We ran hybrid maps, regular maps and only one kill box.
I chose most of the maps and the formula I had in mind was that the maps should be visually attractive, mostly smaller maps, and not overly complicated.
I steered away from killboxes because these require movement skills that novices will not have. The one killbox we ran was killbox_lego which is smaller box and a physics intensive map.
One of the most popular maps was dm_killercops which was just outright fun and small enough not to lose 4 players. This has a lot of features which appeal to novices and its not to hard to learn the map. Although principally a single player map TDM should be VERY interesting.
I tried to trace the map for download without sucess. I can run it on
[ TSF ] #4 for you if you want to take a look

One other map that springs to mind is hometown1999 V1.1. Its visualy attractive and has amusing features such being able to camp in trees.
The only reason I did not include it in my fun cycle was because of the file size and its principally a TDM map - we have a tdm server.
On lan the file size would not matter. Its avaliable on filefont.com

[ TSF ] Zog

For what it's worth if I had not found the general chaos and fun of a killbox, I would have long disappeared.
You should include one of the smaller like Dome or Donut at least to give them a taste.
another non killbox would be jaeger. It's a map that shows all the beauty with a lot to look at and do.

Frag yard is small, very beautiful and you have loads to do.

Air hockey Tableis funky, crazy and shows the lighter side of dm. We had loads of crazy times on that map ask the crew hehe

Smoke center in all it's varients are a lot of good fun too.

Kb Tetris This map is pretty cool, Skykoopa showed it to us,it's super fun and you get random tetris pieces teleported onto the maps which causes random physics fights to break out.

one more question:
if i want to change the map without everyone getting dropped from the server what do I have to do? if I type "map mapname" into the console will that leave the players on the server?

I just installed dedicated server again and it certainly is much better to setup than just the lan server ingame. I think I will be using it instead. any help on installing sound plugins?

This is turning into SRCDS setup and then should be continued at the proper section:

just got sounds running, should make the games more interesting. any more map suggestions are welcome. ctf_2fort seems to be a bit too large for 4-6 players, are there any other good ctf_maps? also do I need to set something up for ctf? or does it work out of the box by just setting tdm?

the meeting was good but we played hl2dm for like 20 minutes. we went 3v1 but I guess the skill gap was too much. the best game was call of juarez bound in blood, everyone had about the same skill since none of us played that game so the skill was about even.
