Subject description: and stopped me from making stupid buys

[NOTE: These are only my opinions, and you might actually like some of these games i'm dissing.]

i got some cash to spare from bux.to, so november is usually my e-shopping season.

I was going to buy 4 games:

Left 4 Dead
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Call of duty: World at war

only one of those games i'm going to buy, and it's obviously left 4 dead, out of the 20 something hours i played the demo, it's damn worth the 50 bucks

Far cry 2: in my opinion it's one of the crappiest games i ever played, besides looking like crap at ultra high settings and actually lags for what it's worth, i had no idea it was an RPG, i tought it was like a regular fps with some vibrance, and i hate RPG's, except pokemon, pokemon rocks.
The only good things i loved about it were the grenades, some textures, and fire physics, and that's it (The grenades has the most realistic explosion, so props to ubisoft for that)
So i stopped playing after 20 minutes because i was stuck at a stupid gunshop with no one in it.
Conclusion, i just saved around 60€ plus tax.

I haven't tried fall out 3, but from all the gameplay videos and reviews, it's just another Stalker with different gameplay (such as far cry 2)
So i saved yet another 60€

Call of duty: World at war.. The guys at Trevarch and Activision are starting to run out of ideas, Just look at the multiplayer, 4 player co-op? with zombies? Anyone? lol?...
The multiplayer demo i got to play was nothing special, it was just like COD4 and worse, the graphics are the same, same crap, with different guns and 50 years earlier. So no, i'm not going to fucking buy another Call of Duty 3 for 80€ at steam. (Yes, theres like 20€ tax since COD4)
So if anyone is going to buy one of the cods, Get COD4: Modern Warfare, pretty much the best they released.

So i saved around 150€ worth of crap. how? by downloading the games from piratebay or similar and demo'ing it before buying it
Something i'm going to more often because i bought Stalker + Rockstar complete pack last year and i wasted money on games that i think are terrible and deserve to die, no more window shopping for me, no sir.

This was just a Rant, If your game tastes are close to mine then you should follow my advice, in which case if you have one of those games, and you love it, Awesome! i, for my wallet's sake, and my sanity, Don't!
So i recommend trying games out before buying them, I know i know. Some games have Demo's, but those games that don't, you should.

Yeah that's all I hear lately is that FC2 was a flop.

Although when you've been buying games as long as I have you can tell if it "ain't quite right" just from the dev team.

Far Cry 1 is good a game you can get it cheap now. The funny thing is the console versions of Far Cry 1 is like a different game, maps, gameplay graphics story etc... Far cry 2 looks like it has really slow gameplay and the textures look all the same I would go crazy. Mad Get fallout 3 im not a big rpg fan but I love that game. Laughing

man how can you hate RPGs they are the best!
Far Cry 2 is not bad so far, the multiplayer is alot of fun and the single player is good so far. The graphics are pretty neat. But as you said, if you are not into open ended games and building up your character as you go along, you wont like it.

The map feature is impressive, the whole world is very believable. You get total immersion in the game.

PostPosted: Mon Mar 09, 2009 14:48    Post subject: Fallout 3

Regarding Fallout 3. I played Stalker, and gave up on it after a while. I just found it a bit boring and I never really knew what the hell was going on. Same too for Morrowind, too open ended for my likeing and I lost the plot too early, forgetting what damn quest I was meant to be doing.

So I approached Fallout 3 with some apprehension. But now, after playing it for a little while, Ican conclusively says its bleedin deadly (i.e. excellent). I'm completely addicted. It's clever, has plenty to do, gives plenty of discretion to the player without confusing him, great story, gameplay etc etc. Oh, and some of the small things I really love about it is that when you launch the game, you're pretty much immediately given the option of continue game. No fluffing around with credits, menus etc. Tiny load times also.

So it was nice knowing you all. I'm off to single player land. I see squid has changed his name to 'lost in fallout 3' - I know exactly what he means.

I also tried L4D and after shooting zombies for a couple of hours, i was bored stiff. I suppose the MP is a bit better

Farcry 2 is a good game, but the driving around gets a bit boring. Also i hate the waystations/checkpoints, you shoot the guards and as soon as you pass the same spot there full of guards again, not even a small amount of time to refill would make it a bit more real.

Haven't tried any of the fall outs, maybe i will Rolling Eyes

CoD5:WAW is not that bad. You can buy one copy for 5 people! So you drop down 10Euro each ( Prices in latvia is way lower on V-Games XD comparing to what you say Breen) And get one Cd whitch you install and Write down your Acc info if you forget something or Format or etc..
But it's way Cheaper nowdays to get a game.. Some games use one cd-key for more than 1 person Very Happy BUT it has a limit ^^
But Farcry 2 and Fallout 3 ... Couldnt agree more . Ripoff . The games aint worth 5 euros. Just a BIG name from the previous games which were hits in thayr time ^

Fallout 3 is the best RPG i've played, but there is some small problems. Laughing You can only level up to 20, lots of the buildings are copy and paste. The textures will drive you crazy after time, must be about 30 in the game, Rolling Eyes if you played may know what I mean. Very easy to get lost in the subways even with map screen.
If you like RPGs you will like this game. I Love the gameplay, story, items, weapons, monsters, secrets, target system I could go on, a much have. Smile

Fair comment on all points. First RPG I've liked. Has a great atmosphere to it.
