Well m8 I have to say that both my self and ravage have now removed our x fire or sli set ups and gone back to one decent gpu card as we both get better fps for dm with one card than 2.

It is also still a prooven fact that neither ati or nvidia can get their drivers right and driver crashes are still frequent.
Lastly there are no games out yet that are fully designed to run 2 cards or a twin gpu card set up . Not even crysis..... and the gains from having one powerfull card opposed to 2 cards is so small that really its not worth bothering with .

Infact the only reason really to have a massive twin or triple card set up is for bench marking at the moment Crying or Very sad

if you use really high resolutions sli has its use. but not on normal resolutions that the majority of people are using.

Part of the problem likely stems from the fact that nVidia is attempting to utilize antiquated technology of modern GPUs. Not only that, but let's consider how much hardware has advanced - dual, tri, quad-core CPUs, physics cards, DDR2/3 and whatnot - SLI practically serves a purpose, IMO.

Hell, I can run STALKER maxed out on all settings with my single-core 512mb 9800GT, and still achieve playable framerates. Granted, my load times have doubled.

loading times are to do with your pc not your gfx card . and the more programes and games you put on it the slower it will get.

And i can run crysis maxwd out on my XFX 9800 GTS and still get more than playable results Very Happy

Any one unfortunate enough to have had a multi gpu 3dfx Voodoo graphics card?
Dual and quad gpu setups failed to deliver anything like the performance boost that was theoretically possible. Power hungry, unstable and unable to run directX. A total disaster for 3dfx. They went bust and nvidia bought the company.

Enough said Laughing

I know, believe me. The trade-off was the load times. When I had my 7600GT, I was able to load STALKER in under a minute on medium-based settings and static lighting.

Looks like it may be time to upgrade to SATA drive setup. Crying or Very sad

Let's not forget the infamous failed Voodoo 5 6000

In which resolution u play Crysis?

My resolution is 1680x1050 and the settings is "high",-
and i have 8800gts-sli(G92)
also Crysis support sli,cf since patch 1.1

btw,-the 9800gts is only a Die-shrink from 65nm(G92)to 55nm and not realy faster as one 8800gts.

I hate the fact as computers get better and them cool games you loved to play get older, they become unplayable, no matter what you try to make em run, Im so tempted to build an old rig together with Windows 98 just so I can play them Crying or Very sad

I got loads of old computer rigs and bits tatting around at my dads work so I'm gonna have a go at building it from one of them. I've just gotta find an old copy of WIndows 98 tatting about, needless to say my dad will probably have a CD tatting around somewhere.

Cheers any way Cool

Or you could perhaps download Microsoft's free Virtual PC to run them:
