Onboard sound or card |
|
Hi
Need some advice on my sound system
The new motherboard comes with realtek 6 channel HD sound, which is 5.1 surrond sound
Or I have a 2 yr old sound card Hercules Fortissimo 7.1 surrond sound
Which is better to use?

I'm not great at the auld technical things but I'd generally go for a separate sound card. Generally onboard sound is fairly basic (i.e. equates with a three year old sound card) and more importantly will run off the mb's cpu therefore taking up cpu resources.

Definately go with the hercules card, and be sure to disable the on board in the BIOS.

I think someone should do the world a favor and order an airstrike to destroy realtek. Their sound cards are just royal pieces of crap. The sound quality is so crappy you wish you played the game on mute. Secondly, the integrated soundcard drains alot of CPU for nothing, cuz once more it's a piece of crap! Go for the hercules duder. Realtek's real name is RealCrap!

Thanks guys for the feedback, it was only the HD, which i took for high difinition that had me thinking about onboard sound.
I'm off to fit the sound card and down load a few latest drivers for the beast.

a tip on the side:
I recommend the creative x-fi gamer or a higher x-fi. not because of eax or performance, but because it has a 24bit crystalizer which makes music sound so much better. changing from a creative audigy 2 nx I had a big "wow" effect. once you listen to it you donīt want to revert back to a normal sound card anymore.

Personaly, i wouldn't waste my money on a soundcard, but if you already have one, go with your hercules

On a side note, I have X-fi, in a usb-xmod sound card. I use it mainly for my mp3player tho, when I'm at home I want a superior sound and I use a usb wal charger to do that with the xmod. I have a seperate soundcard in my pc , not a cheap one but I'm not entirely sure but i think it's just a basic one. Would my xmod make the sound on my pc better ? And if it does, do I need to go into BIOS and disable sound card to make it sound better ? Thanks
