|
So some of you can just about write...
What book have you read recently that you would recommend?
I've just read The Book Thief which is a very poignent book about a girl in Munich during WWII. I thoroughly recommend it.

These are the 3 shelfs above my computer, I have read 90% of them. Other 10% are SWMBO books.
What sort of genre are you into?
Mine are sci-fantsy such as Robert Jordan - wheel of time series or L.E. Modesit Jr
Adventure - Clive Clussler or James Clavell
Also Tom Clancy (rainbow 6 games based on)
To name but a few.......
I resized these photos 4 times, didn't seem to make any difference how they came out here, sry

Unfortunately these days the only books you'll catch my nose in have the title "hanes manual" or "chiltons".
Still good reading though.

Aside from various chemistry textbooks (inorganic chem, o. chem, and p. chem (shudder)), I really haven't read a whole hell of a lot. Right now I'm reading Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin. It has something to do with vampires, a riverboat, and 1850's America. Good read so far.
And if you're a fantasy fan and haven't read R. R. Martin's a Song of Fire and Ice books, you must. Very, very, very good. Did I mention they were awesome and very good? And for what little it's worth....he rocks the beard...and has a silly hat !

Ahh, so many good books already mentioned.
Just finished:
Dennis Lehane - Shutter Island. One of the best thriller's i've read in years: thrilling, dense, captivating and an end with a twist which came totally unexpected for me. Lehane is also the author of Mystic River.
Currently reading:
Douglas Hofstadter - I'm a strange loop. If you are into computer science, KI, feedback systems, recursive loops etc, it's worth a read. He's the author of the highlyl successful Gödel, Escher Bach.
For those who prefer pictures:
Frank Miller - 300. The model comic for the movie.

I tried to read LOTR:Triliogy however I got to the 3rd book and my last braincell exploded from information overload. The only other books I read are to do with computer programming......not much fun really

Favorite book of all time is A Confederacy of Dunces. Also a huge fan of the late Douglas Adams. Michael Crichton also writes good books.

Not done much reading for a while, but when I do, it's normally history. Often Military history, but not exclusively so.
The one that stands out in my mind right now is - A history of the English speaking peoples by Winston Churchill.

I like science fiction, both classic and new stuff. My favourite is probably the War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. At the moment I'm reading The War in the Air, also by Wells which is great and full of European imperialism and a cockney englishman, who somehow unwillingly ends up in a zeppelin attack on America.
In terms of non-fiction I read my geology textbooks for university (sometimes) and a bit of history and an art textbook/guide, as outside PC games I like to draw a lot.

I like reading but I only do it when I have to or have too much time on my hands/am bored. I've read everything LOTR from the hoobbit to children of hurin, everything harry potter, everything roald dahl, anthony horowitz, and a whole bunch of dutch writers you probabely never even heard of. Most were in my child years, as said, I only read when I have time too much but I always have things to do

Good books
Mr Nice - Howard Marks: The autobiography of the largest cannabis dealer of the 1980s. Funny, strange and moving at times, one of best books I have read.
1984 - George Orwell: The classic story of Big Brother, a government gone mad with power and what happens to those that disobey
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - Ken Kesey: A tale of the day to day lives of the inhabitants of a mental institution, later used as the basis for a movie starring Jack Nicholson
Costra Nostra, A History of the Sicilian Mafia - John Dickie: No synopsis needed for this, the name speaks for itself
and some for the more politically minded
Reefer Madness and Other Tales from the American Underground - Eric Schlosser: An examination of the three largest moral problems facing the United States, namely immigrant workers, cannabis use and pornography
State of Denial Bush at War, Part III - Bob Woodward: The untold stories of the war in Iraq as told by the former White House correspondent with the New York Times
I'll post more later on if I remember them
