ELEA vs TSGK #2 after the fight |
|
Second meeting for the ELEA and the TSGK.
It has turned from 4v4 to 3v3 at the 3th map, and even with that modification, both parts of the fight were intense and fun.
Thanks for this good games.

Good game TSGK! Rematch sometime in the not too distant future. Swamped with work and on 5 am schedule, hence had to bail out after map 1.
ELEA I server up and running (moved from GameServers to KillerCreation) and my ping is finally back to where it's supposed to be - 40 instead of 120.
Seems like GameServers re-reroute my signal from Iceland first to NY, then back to Europe. No clue wtf that is all about, KC goes direct to UK, hence better ping.
As usual, no one on this side took score pics.

Routing table is more the business of your provider and the peers used between you and the destination, Gameservers is a destination, your provider doesn't use an optimized route to reach the network where they are hosted at, or they maybe don't have a peer allowing a direct route to UK for that network and have to pass via NY first (welcome to backbone mafia).
You can still tell your provider about the matter, providing the IP of the destination, they may explain why they route you to NY before going to UK for this destination, or they may fix the table (sure), or they may never reply.
Good luck with that.

Heh, got this reply from GS when I send them the comparison between their route and KillerCreation:
Killercreation is not on Level3 communications network. The routes will be different in this case.
[GS Staff signature] and then the GS slogan ...
Frag. Not Lag.
Different to say the least since I don't go through NY to reach London anymore when connecting to our KC server. GS ought to change their slogan to Frag'n'lag.

Yes, that means your Internet Provider doesn't have another route to reach Level 3 network in the UK than passing via NY first.
Gameserver has no routing table, Gameserver is a destination, your Internet Provider is responsible for the route between you and the destination.
If you take a plane to visit someone living in London and that this plane is passing via NY before reaching London, your friend isn't responsible, but the Airline is.
That's exactly the same with internet routing, where Internet Provider is the Airline and someone is Gameserver.
If your Internet Provider lost its direct peer with the network where Killercreation is hosed at, it will be the same problem, hopefully this rarely happend.

Well it seems for many ppl their ISP's routes are via NY. Thats why many clans are changing server provider.

And we just did. [ELEA] I just changed from GameServers to KillerCreation. Check this traceroute (both servers are in London; connecting from Reykjavik Iceland):

8 52 ms 48 ms 48 ms DualXeon.killercreation.co.uk [81.19.219.24:27015]
Quite the difference. I have no clue what this is all about, but after some investigation ALL Europe-based GameServers go through NY and ALL Europe-based KillerCreation server do NOT.
One thing I do notice, however, is the last step:
GameServers London: 106 ms 96 ms 104 ms
KillerCreation London: 52 ms 48 ms 48 ms
Our UK shooters immediately dropped from latency 40 to 12. This raises the question; if I'm using the same airline (the provider), who does one destination make me go through NY and the other straight to London.

This example was ultra simplified, routing is more about network peer than physical location (imagine, 2 differents airports in the same city, where your airline will pass via NY for the airport #1 (Level 3) and will go directly to london for the airport #2 (KillerCreation), whatever, it still the airline choice to use these routes).
A good provider provides a smart route to a network located at a physical location, some provider do not care about the physical presence of a network and automaticaly route all the traffic to the most well know peer of the destination, in your case it is Level 3, which is the world largest intercontinental network, your provider just don't bother routing smartly since Level 3 is too big (or unknown reason), they just trow all the traffic to NY and let the Level 3 peer in NY reroute the traffic to their physical location at London.
See how a provider can really don't bother at all:
http://forum.tsgk.com/viewtopic.php?p=38978#38978
In that case he passes via London, and go to NY and come back to London (thumbs up).
And for exemple mine, which route me directly to Level 3 London instead of trowing my traffic to NY and then come back to London like the other case.
http://forum.tsgk.com/viewtopic.php?p=38783#38783
Lazy providers waste the transatlantic cable bandwidth, purely and simply, but who cares.
