Hi,

Some of you remember the endless moaning from me a few months ago. To those who don't, here's why : my half life didn't work half of the time then. I started playing one day and for some reason I couldn't play properly. No high ping, no choke, nothing, but all I could see is that the game went sslllllooooowwww. It turned me nuts, as I really need to be able to play properly to compete with you (good) guys. NikNok told me to change rate, and so I did. Switching from 10.000 to 30.000 did the trick.

But a week later, bye bye good, sweet gaming again. For some reason, the problems were back. Rate OK, Choke OK, cl_cmdrate and cl_updaterate OK, everything allright. But as fast as it had came, as fast it went away. I didn't change anything, but I never encountered the problem again. At least, now and then, but then I just had to reset my pc and all was good again.

Now, I've went to a LAN party this weekend, (did some good games, there were some quite good players but only one that really owned me, and everyone (df^dot, anyone ?) But there was this player, dts.nox. I thought he was quite a good player, but during the time I was at the party (went home because boring, no half life games going on most of the time) he was all busy trying to get his computer fixed. He said he couldn't play properly and everything went "strange". Appearantly he had the same problem as I had.He thought it was his pc, as his processorspeed had changed from 1.9 ghz to 1.2 without reason.

Anyways, I left, and when I came home I played a few good games but this evening, I booted up half life and the stupid lag issue is back. Tried everything, no change. What I have noticed is that for some strange reason, half life says my processorspeed is 3.5-3.8 GHZ.

So here I am, with the same problem as the guy at the LAN (who didn't find a solution AFAIK). Half life says processor speed 3.5-3.8, when I right click computer and select properties 3.8 also, everest home edition says 2.8 (normal processor speed) and BIOS says 2.8. I tried switching one of the cores of my processor off (dual core) in the BIOS, but didn't help.

I'm quite troubled with this, I want to play and I can't Sad

I'm about to steal my girlfriend's laptop to play HL2DM

1. try reinstalling it. had the same problem when I tested if steam works without the registry entries after you reinstall windows lol.

anyway hl2 has problems to know newer processors, not that it would make the performance go bad. my old 3500+ was shown as 7.2ghz Razz

I've played around a bit with my values, rate is now 25000 cl_updaterate 30 cl_cmdrate 30, still showing 3.7 GHZ processor, but for some reason I get 15-30 choke at TSGK Serv I. How do I get choke to 0 ?

Thank you osiris, I've changed rates and now my choke is 0.

I still have the "lag" feeling though, I can already catch a grenade with my gravgun again but when I jump, it feels like a low-grav server :s Have just reinstalled but doesn't fix. I think I might totally uninstall steam and everything and install from CD again.

Anything strange ?

with reinstalling I meant completely getting rid of steam and downloading a new steaminstaller and then download the game again.

Can i setup keys to change all 3 settings at once, for intances

when i press F1 it changes settings to
rate 30000
cl_updaterate 66
cl_cmdrate 66

When i press f2
rate 30000
cl_updaterate 33
cl_cmdrate 45

When i press F3
rate 30000
cl_updaterate 20
cl_cmdrate 30

This way i could have three speed settings, is this possible to make in my config or autoexec file please Question

Yes

In your autoexec put in something like this:
bind "F7" "exec name1.cfg"
bind "F8" "exec name2.cfg"
bind "F10" "exec name3.cfg"
bind "F11" "exec name4.cfg"

Open your config, go to the parts you want to change, then save as name1.cfg

Open your cfg again and change relevant parts to the second settings and save as name2.cfg etc etc

You're done.

if I have choke, usually hitting the END key fixes it. Before the ram of server I was flushed I sometimes even set the rates lower, to the ones Osiris suggested.

that should cycle through the 3 available settings, if 33, then to 66, if 66 then to 100, if 100 then to 33.

I Never use that button though.

I think that players who change rates outside the norm are making the game lag for example I had one player using rate 3500 cmdrate 60 updaterate 10 this sort of rate would not help his game play any better and only effects players with normal rates who can't hit them .
on some servers if you put ma_rates in the console it shows the players rates .
Can TSGK servers please let all users have this option open to them and not just admin .

yes thats really annoying, I hate it when people have that. especially good players, its just not fairplay, could be called cheating to have bad hitreg because of weird settings.

Problem has returned -_- I'm copying all of my files from my C drive (192 GB) to my P drive (external HDD) now. lol it says "preparing to copy" for 5 minutes already. But I'm sure my HDD will be able to cope. Anyways, after that is finished I'm going to wipe my C disk clean and reinstall XP, steam, and everything needed. I'm sure that will fix the issues and that I'll be able to play with you guys again tomorrow evening. Smile

PS: has just changed, just 192 minutes left so there's a chance I'll be able to play with you guys tonight even Very Happy
