Killbox Royal Rumble |
|
hi guys,
We from KWL plan soon a killbox royal rumble. Its deathmatch game with each map 8 players about, the first 3 or 4 placed players will come in the next round. We will sort out the players, so that, if possible, no teammates will play against each other. I try to contact some clans and players more to look for the feedback. If we have about 30 or 40 registered players, we will start. Players must not be in a clan, everybody can play. More infos you will find at KWL website, www.the-kwl.de or in the KWL steam community. I will update time by time the registered users on the KWL website. If you are interessted, please let me know here, or at KWL website. The fights will mostly be at weekend. I think, one round with 20 minutes is for everybody possible to play and plan. Killbox kwl or kbh 2, we start a vote soon.
bye bye

Yep, in German u say "man muss nicht sein" = u dont have to be. "must not be" = darf nicht sein.
End of German lesson. Sit down.

Congratulations to the TSGK players who made it through to the next round, especially Cannon, who I compete with almost every day.
I was a bit pissed off when I made the last post so I will explain -
Apparently Zog and Soltan vin igor are the only two players (not to mention KWL admin) who know the difference between GMT and BST/Western Europe time.
My playing slot was 2030 GMT which is 2130 BST . I was actually online early for a warm up and could have played my game but by the time I had found someone who could tell me the password it was too late to join in.
KWL admin have said sorry.
As a matter of principal, I logged on to the right server at my alloted time GMT and killed a couple of random players.
Zog wins the entire tournament by default.

I wasn't there not because I didn't know the difference, but only because I had troubles with my game again. Yes, the same ones I have all the time. By the time I fixed them the fight was half-way done. I'd rather no game then the suckiest game ever. Sucks, I bet I could've made it to second round.

Since i don't use my email anymore i can't complete my sign up process on the KWL Forum.
Anyway, that's a lot of blabla for a simple time zone confusion.
Quoting a post from KWL Admin:
Quote: |
about the GMT time... When i look at this link or in Google, its 2 hours + to Berlin. But when i look in my PC Setup or in some forums like PhP2BB, its only 1 hour + to Berlin in the timezone management. wtf???
I dont understand... Cause of this i did this mistake with time. I am in many forums registered and i know well, that in the timezone GMT option, is only 1 hour + to Berlin. Dont know why...
Anyway, next time we know better. sry for those ones, who couldnt play and thx again for the others which could play so fast. |
Absolutly, you made no mistake there expect that GMT time zone doesn't follow DST (Daylight saving time), Berlin is GMT+1 from GMT, but during the summer time it goes GTM+2, but most software still report GMT+1 even during summer time, which is not a mistake, they simply still use the standard and indicate an offset for the DST change if in effect.
Especialy Windows which has lead to a major confusion about time zone.
Purist know that GMT = GMT, and this whatever DST or not, but the very high majority still refer to Windows time zone, therefor, GMT+1 is a time zone before a GMT delay for most of all.
Those same purist should also know that GMT+1 refer to a standard appelation, therefor, GMT+1 during the summer time = +2.
Berlin, Paris, Madrid etc etc... = GMT+1, even during summer time, people still call it GMT+1.
The reason is simple, GMT has been established before the DST covention, reason for why we still say GMT+1 even during summer time.
You may want to use UTC instead, UT (UTC) = GMT, execpt that it doesn't refer to a strict time zone but to an Universal Time and take into consideration the DST if in effect.
It is 14h04 UTC+2 in France right now (means +2 hours ahead of UTC), during the winter, at the same time on the clock it will be 14h04 UTC+1.
Use UTC time format for 0 confusion, the modern format for the time coordination.
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx
Or you may use the Time Zone abbreviations, if you can learn all of them...
The advantage is that there is an abbreviation for all the regions during standard time and summer time, example CEST/CEDT during summer time and CET during standard time.
http://www.timeanddate.com/library/abbreviations/timezones/
Note that the time on this forum refer to UTC and not GMT.
We still use the standard appelation for GMT time zone when we set a clan fight, GMT+1 and this whatever summer time or not, people have to make the correction for the DST theirself, we can't help them if they don't know where do they live and if they aren't able to spot the difference between the summer and the winter (in most regions one is colder than the other).

I have trouble with times too. I use Timeanddate.com and find it very helpful.

Thank you for the explanation Osiris. It will be of assistance to those who do not have a nautical background like myself.
The games were scheduled in GMT and should have been played at alloted GMT time slot. GMT is the same for everybody in irrespective of daylight saving and time zones.
For those of you who still do not understand, type GMT into google and you will find several converters for all over the world. As you rightly say, it is up to the player to ensure that he/she is there at the right time.
At least two of us did the right thing and missed out on our games for this reason. That implies that all the other players and KWL got it wrong. Some might have been online and were fortunate enough to guess what had happened. Its not sour grapes on my part. I never expected to progress past the first round. I was looking forward to playing with some real experts.

I think he might have to defeat [ TSF ] The Master from Davros' clan before Osiris can claim that title.
