Company Name Subject description: Ideas Please |
|
Okay. Tomorrow I am going to the county clerks office to register a company that I am starting. I am also registering it with the county and state Chamber of Commerce. This is a long time dream of mine. It is the end of a trade that I've been in for a long time and the start of a new one in a completely new direction. I will be building high-end computers. I am doing it a bit backwards. No store front at first. Online sales and local advertising only to see how it goes and test the waters I want to run the name by you all first to see what you think. Raptor Gaming Systems is what I plan on calling it. I checked into the name to make sure it is not taken and cant find anything like it. The other part is that I will have to get the name listed highly in the search engines also keeping in mind that I will be competing with some heavy hitters like Alienware and Ibuypower. So before I put the final stamp on it tomorrow I was hoping to get some of your opinions. And who better to ask than a bunch of hard core gamers?
Thanks,
~Krazimu_TSGK

Many years ago when I was facing being made redundant, I had to consider how I was going to make a living and support a wife and four children.
Planning in advance for what seemed at the time to be inevitable, I registered as Last Ditch Technology. As it happened, I never needed to use the name. This was just me repairing just about anything electronic that everybody else had written off or given silly repair quotes for.
A name is VERY important it must mean something to your customers especially if you are not starting with a reputation like I would have done.
I seem to remember a computer game called "Raptor" back in the days when Amiga ruled........................
Whatever you chose, getting established and building a customer base is the most important. That means hands on and a shit load of work. The name does not matter but having a name that suggests capability and describes what you do is a help when people are looking through the classified ads.
Whatever you chose, good luck.
Relate -
Sorry this a boring post.

Nope I am from America, only two states from you. Though some ppl swear I am from another planet
Thanks guys for the help This wont be the first company that I owned so I do know about customer base and reputation etc. I was pretty successful with my current/last business and that is the only reason I will take this risk now. I know it will take a while and a lot of work to get this thing off the ground but I like the challenge And Zoggy your posts are never boring

The name surgests power and bite, which is what i'd want from a top spec computer. Like alienware the case on your computer must make a statement to reflect this. Thats part of the image and so you need to make the same sort of statement, though i'm sure you know this.
Good luck m8, good choice of name
Just googled the name raptor and it came up with this!
raptorcomputers.netfirms.com/systems.html

Sounds nice Krazi. Or...Bespoke Electronic Systems & Technology (aka BEST). Might suit the conservative buyer (i.e. the older gamer with dosh)

Or what about Demon PCs! Ah imagine the blurb "Unleash the fire within" etc.
Can we suggest blurb?!! Re Raptor...
"Get your teeth into this!"
"Bite off more than you can chew!"
"Time to change your dinosaur?"
ooooh I could go on.
BTW: one thing that would attract me to a PC provider is ongoing driver support. Even Dell don't do this right. What I need is to enter my model number and for the PC provider to list those (and only those) drivers updates specifically relevant to my PC model.

nice kraz, but i think you would get a lawsuit from Raptor, its a hard-drive making company, plus some other shit they build
Dont be a fool, Intel got sued by a company named DualCor, they had to pay 1 mil for using Dual Core in their products name
Also, TigerDirect.com is VERY VERY good quality site, i bought my Ultra there, since Euro worths more than dollar, at the moment.
they have youtube videos, when they have a product they make a video about it, the host, Logan, he just rocks! hes realy really funny!
if you want to compete with these, you should do the same as tigerdirect, do youtube videos, and find a GOOD host, hire Jay leno
as for the company name.. thats up to you, do something krazy!

Raptor isnt the name of any harddisc manufacturer. WD Raptor is Western Digitals name only for 1 series of high performance harddrives.
Quote: |
Western Digital, WD Caviar, WD Passport, WD Protégé and WD Raptor, are registered trademarks; and WD, the WD logo, Data Lifeguard, Data Lifeguard Tools, DuraStep Ramp, FlexPower, RAFF, Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward, Safe Shutdown, SecureConnect, Shock Guard, ShockShield, SoftSeek, WD Dual-option, WD Essential, WD Extreme, and WD Scorpio are trademarks of Western Digital Technologies, Inc. Other trademarks may be mentioned herein that belong to other companies. |

Raptor alone should be save to use. I doubt the simple name could be copyrighted or a trademark.

thats a way you could attract customers. they wanna know how to pronounce the name... then they wanna know what they sell.... then they wanna buy a computer. Simple as that
