Subject description: Oh Noes

Hello All

Ever since the update I have been having a sound problem. When ingame @ any random time a very very loud ringing noise (Sine Wave - Like the noise when you get naded but still survive) starts playing constantly (Though all other sounds carry on working).

The only way I can stop it is by Exiting the Game, Quiting Steam and then relaunching it. It happens in HL2 as well as CS:S and nothing ingame seems to cause it which seems to point the problem @ Steam.

I have tried Disabling all Sounds and messages that the new Community thing does, and still I get the problem. I have used the same Sound Drivers and Sound Card for past 3 Years and have never ever had any sound problems with anything (I use alot of Sound Programs Ableton, NI, etc and they are all fine).

So finally.......any ideas? Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Have you tried snd_restart 1 in the console while in-game?

Its not a problem with the Game sounds though they all work fine with or without the High Pitched Noise. The Noise carrys on even when I come out of the game itself, I have to exit steam in order to make it stop Confused

That's exactly what {RiP}Judas.Priest suggested.
If you type snd_restart 1 in the console at the time of the high pitched noise is coming it will stop it without having to restart the game itself.
Have you tried?

I used to find this happened a lot with my old computer. I only had 512k memory at the time. In fact it was worse than the annoying whine. When there was a of and action and noise, the whole game would crash and you would get a motor boat sound.
The game itself does not use a lot of memory but the whole system including the sound card will use all it can get. It appears to be sound card/ob sound related.
I have found that an increase in heapsize has helped. When it happens now I don't have to go as far as a steam re launch, I just close and re open the game.

It used to be only nades that caused the problem but since the last update, I have noticed that combine balls can also trigger of a sound loop. Thanks for the console command I will try it. My fix has its good points. I have time to fetch another beer from the fridge while the game re launches. Wink
