Interleaving/Ping |
|
I have just been upgraded on my internet, but the down side is that they use interleaving to get a steady connection at a higher speed. The interleaving does cause higher ping/latency in some cases.
I feel my ping is all over the place, sometimes changing every second. So is there a background program that could monitor this while i play a game or 2, then look at a graph to see if it does?

Start > Run... > Open: field type cmd
Then type ping -t ipaddress (where ipaddress is the ip address you want to ping) press Enter then play, eat, watch TV, sleed and when you'r done do a CTRL+C which will show a table with max lantency, min latency, average etc etc... but no graph, you will have to check the all the rows yourself.

net_graph 3 in console shows 4 lines with your ping, rates in and out and your choke. There's also net_graph 1 and 2 .
if you don't like the position where hl2 displays it (over your ammo info), adjust with net_graphpos and net_graphheight.
I have this in autoexec.cfg :
bind ";" "net_graph 3"
bind "'" "net_graph 0"
net_graphheight 1000
net_graphpos 0
Cheers

interleaving shouldn´t really do much of a change that it allows higher connections, for example my connection is causing hundred thousands of errors every day and I have Interleave-low/Fastpath/interleave-off (different companies use different names for it) and there was no change from interleave-high/on and the connection is very stable. usually at connection upgrades interleaving is always turned on again but can be turned off again later, but you just have to order it again. at least thats how it works in germany.

My ping has gone to around 220 on server I and some more TSGK servers recently, but on servers XIX and V, its only around 20.
I don't know what to do
I blame Virgin media

Perhaps you are using your old connection rates?
try increasing or decreasing values
keep updaterate and cmdrate the same value, otherwise youll choke to death

Interleaving was turned off yesterday. Ping for server 1 dropped from about 50 to a steady 32
Will have to see over time if its made any diff to the line being less stable

usually it shouldn´t do anything to the stability of the connection.

This was part of the info sent to me about interleaving
Quote: |
For customers who regularly use online games or use VoIP telephones, and are concerned about their ‘ping’ time, the slightly higher latency caused by interleaving may not be desirable.
We strongly recommend that customers who have interleaving switched on, leave it on. However we recognise that some customers may prefer faster ping times over line stability. |

Since i have changed this settings (1 year ago, >50 to <20), my level increased. Even if sometimes, i have some internet deconnections or some days game is unplayable due to that. good most of time, sometimes annoying, fastpath rocks in my opinion.
