The 12 September 2007 a source engine update has been released (same time as the new steam community).
Unfortunatly this source engine update is bugged for the Linux Servers and the ingame chat is broken.

Only TSGK Serv III which is a windows server still show ingame chat.
There is nothing to do execpt to wait for a patch from valve.
As you know, if the bug affects CSS it should be fixed very soon but if the bug only affects HL2dm it could never been fixed (let hope not)...

This has nothing to do with our auto mute system, until your Player Status show "In good standing" you'r not muted.

Attention, even if the chat aren't broadcasted to the others players it still being recorded in the history, the auto mute system still work and will proceed all the chat sent during this bug and this even if chat doesn't appear ingame.

I was so afraid I got muted. I wanted to gg people and all, and nothing happened, but then I looked and it said "in good standing" so I thought something was up...

Get rid of the STEAM-Community Overlay:

1. Start Steam
2. Start HL2DM
3. Back to desktop with Windows Key
4. Open your Taskmanager (CRTL+ALT+DEL)
5. Go to "Processes" Tab
6. Identify "GameOverlayUI.exe" and terminate it manual.

7. Close Taskmanager and enjoy your Game.

I dont think they would leave such a big bug unfixed, maybe it would last a few weeks but they would eventually fix it most likely. valve is even planning on porting steam games to linux and filling more working places for the linux development so maybe the future could be a bit brighter than pitch black.

Type "@ Hello all" instead "Hello". The message will be marked as (To Admin) but all can see it tough. Just tested and it worked fine at all eXs- and TSGK- Servers for me and some Clan Comrades.

Probably not the most perfect solution but anyway better then "Namechat" or the "Big Silence"

Pretty sure that non-admins also talked with other non-admins at our coop server... well... maybe... I must admit, that I was busy with a Division of Antlions right then. Embarassed

Until Valve fixes the bug, one can use a simple solution for Mattie EventScripts to fix chat. Details here:
