Yes. We'll have to do with namechatting for the moment, I fear.
The forums work for me.

yup the friends menu is removed forever and not coming back. .. it sucks! to access the community you have to push ctrl-tab .. or whatever you bound it to.. for me it's ctrl-1
and yes.. the chat is broken for all linux servers.

Well,
I got the steam community without asking. Lost my sound and text. Some of it is back after a fashion but not working too well..............
I also went from 1st person to third person spec without asking.............
It was working OK.
Somebody hacked the online activation again??
Time to make another pointless update with the excuse of "it will be better" or,
we need to protect our investment and f*** the customer.

steam update |
|
Welcome to my world of mutedness! Alas, I am sure that whilst most people's game dialogue will soon be reinstated, I will continue to languish in a world of silence. Ironically, this temporary glitsch will be of such annoyance to the normally unmuted fraternity that they will I'm sure, curb future outbursts of profanity in the future once their ingame voices have been restored. So perhaps it is a blessing in disguise and will prevent you from going to the dark side! You have been warned!

though all chat has stopped, I notice the sounds still work on the KC and KWL server when you type them.

Valve developper do not read the Steam Forum, you must create a ticket via Steam Support, waste of time.

The game feels different. Slower or something like lag - not fps for me, something else.

There has been alot of post's on steam forums about poor performance cause of the new update. Valve read some post's and this is what they said.
Quote: |
Friends in-game support is now provided by the overlay exclusively. That's very unlikely to change in the near future. However, those of you who are experiencing poor performance from Steam in general or the overlay specifically can expect us to make improving your experience with the new verison of Steam and the overlay a priority. |
This link is the same as the Valve quote

Thanks to the new update, I've had to re-assigned my two extra mouse buttons as keystrokes instead of Forward(File directory) and Back(File directory).

I am using a Logitech MX310 mouse. In order to use the extra three buttons in-game, I have to pre-assign them specific commands through the Logitech configuration utility. If these buttons aren't set to a specific command, HL2 ignores them.
Mouse buttons 4 and 5 were set to "Forward" and "Back", meaning if I were to press mouse button 4, I would move one page back in my internet browser. If I were to press mouse button 5, I would move one page forward in my internet browser.
In-game, HL2 would register MOUSE4 and MOUSE5 as extra mouse buttons, which I then bound to reload (MOUSE4) and crowbar/stick (MOUSE5). The new update broke this feature, and no matter what command I assigned a button through Logitech's utility, HL2 did not see them. So therefore, I had to assign the buttons to act as keystrokes "-" and "=". When binding them in-game, HL2 would think I was pressing the "-" and "=" on my keyboard when I pressed either of the two mouse buttons.

The MX310 is not supported by Setpoint software. I do, however, have the latest Mouseware drivers for it.

Good news, I have regained usage of my two buttons, no thanks to that damned gameoverlayui.exe (Steam Community). If my theory is correct, the UI would interfere with the mouse drivers, thus rendering them useless.
