PostPosted: Tue Aug 28, 2007 10:16    Post subject:  TSGK Servers Auto-mute system activated

It has come to our attention that more and more players regular and new are swearing a lot on the TSGK Servers latetly which is affecting the purpose of this game at our servers, the fun.

For this reason we have develloped a 100% automatic player Mute system.
Its function is simple, every days the system will check the server's chat history looking for the worse words arround (the last 7 days), after a fast calculation and an easy algorithm it will auto-mute all the players who are over the "quota" of naughtiness, a player may swear a couple of times, passing the limit he get auto-muted, note that it will look for all kind of swear in any language, not only english.

Global mute is permanent and cannot be removed by an Admin, it will be effectiv on all the TSGK Fleet.
The probability of false-positiv will be extremly low considering the group of words that has been selected... "noob" has been included as we'd like to see its over use disapear from our servers.

We ran a test last week and it did wonderfully (10 catch all of them were heavy swearing).

For now the system will only enforce chat history (not player's name, not microphone use, which will still be handled by human admins who will have more time now).
It will be improved with the time.

Words list and quota limit will not be communicated, but if a player get catched this mean that he has really abused the chat over the last 7 days.

Automute system is now activated on all the TSGK Servers.
Players who will get caught could claim their case 24 hours (maximum) after being muted inside "Problem Reporting" for false-positiv only.

Any intentional tentativ of getting catched in order to show that the system could be wrong, to find out the quota limit and or the words list will not be considered as a false positiv.

1. The quota will avoid catching people who softly swear and/or used the word in another context (if used more than the quota then it is no more another context), concerning noob no matter the context this word has to get a vacation from TSGK Servers, find an alternativ if you want to use it in a positiv way.

2. This is about Mute, which mean to not have the possibility to write ingame messages, ban is another level (comes after mute if necessary).

3. This system is not going to replace human admins at all, but to handle the primary case of heavy swear on the server, 80%.
The 20% who use special charts and misspeling swear will be handled manualy and spotted fastly with another tool (which doesn't mute automaticaly), we excatly know all the limitation of this system and the smartarses will be disapointed.

4. It concern players who swear a lot more than the majority of those who swear, again, if a player get spotted he went too far.

5. Quota will be weekly based only (7 days, works like weekly KpD).

6. Player Status is available on the personal player profile at the field Player Status.

Mute are permanents except for false-positiv (if promptly reported).
This will probably not affect players who use this forum.
Enjoy.

The word noob shouldnt be used at all on any server. Its basically insulting the player who you are using it againt.

A permanent ban from chatting when you say "noob" a couple of times? Come on..I agree with you when people use heavy swearing, but the word "noob" ?

good idea, but I hope there are no mistakes in it. Would suck heavily when a player 'supernoob' enters and you say 'hello supernoob' ... or when you say : "that person is not a noob". I fear those things will get you muted also :X I bet people will make up new words and start caling others naabs lol

A "fast, easy algorithm" probably doesn't check for the context in which the word is used i think..so saying "blah is not a noob" will then be flagged as swearing.

that's what I mean... doesn't matter if you say 'I play nooby' or 'you are a fucking noob' , both will probabely get you ane step closer to mute.

But honestly it has come to this, and because of this feature you will no longer have to say things like such and such isnt a noob, because you can tell them they will be auto muted instead.

That's a nice improvement and I hope it will helps in game.

But what about the context (as already mentionned by Freeman and Controllerboy) ?

And how are the players muted aware about their muting ? Is there a special message for them every time they wants speak or just nothing ?

Ah a good addition, maybe people will soon think twice before saying certain things, seeing how there are a lot of angry people who need therapy out there. Rolling Eyes

Only the existence of the system will take a positive effect. Its good that details like the "wordlist" and the exact amount of needed swearing stays a mystery. Some will think twice now before they fire up some rude and stupid chat comments.

And when did you ever hear someone say: "Player XYZ is not a noob" instead of "XYZ is good"? And even if - how often would it be said this way?

A lack of love was reason for setting it up and now you fear to be punished by mistake for "loveley comments" like "... isnt a noob"... Shocked

How big is the chance to get triggered for saying this like 20+ times in a week? Laughing

I like it, its exactly what was needed for some and i doubt Osiris setup would mute someone by mistake - for being unnormal nice.

those who get muted and unmuted again will seek a different strategy to swear. they could write it with gramatical errors or with 1337 language combinations. what about them? I know that it will catch most people so it will be very useful even if some overcome the system.

I think its a gr8 idea and also because it takes out the human factor on admins and even TSGK players. The list is the same for everyone.

It couldn't have come soon enough. I hope that all the other clans see this and ask how its been done and want to have the same or simular system, even to the point of having the same word list so its universal.

Great one O leader Cool

He also said there is a quota limit that you must pass in order to get muted. Im guessing the limit is high enough not to ban you if you say "sargE isnt a noob" a few times Very Happy Hopefully osiris has accounted for this in his calculations Wink

another question osiris. Would this quota limit be weekly like most of the stats or continous. weekly maybe something like 20 bad words (or whatever the limit) and total continous being 150+ maybe. I doubt you would say "abc isnt a noob" 20 times in one week guys Wink
