Gavity Gun |
|
when using the grav gun, several times in game i have items that i'm trying to pick up, taken by players further than me or even behind me. Is this normal?
Sometimes there coming towards me, using another weapon i try grabing an object such as a barrel, only for them to change weapon and take the barrrel from a long distance.

Grav "Gum" problems |
|
Hi Sniperborg,
I too experience similar problems with the grav gun. Sometimes it just objects "glued" to the floor. The "glued" topic has been covered elsewere if I remember correctly. As 70% of my kills are wth physics, the problem you describe is of great concern to me. This has improved to some extent since I discovered my mouse was not functioning properly and, even with a cheap and chatty wireless mouse, the space between red brown lines on the stats graph is now the right way round. (I am not suggesting that your rodent is faulty.)
I think the problem might be someting to do with lag.
In a lag situation, you oponent may have acted before you and you may not have seen it happen because of the lag or, the instruction has just been processed first.
Perhaps one of the experts would care to comment on this. I do notice it happens a lot more when the lag is bad. It makes the game unplayable for me having such a high dependance on physic kills. I just have to go and play elsewhere until the lag improves.
Thurday since my last game - I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
What am I to do? Another 9 days to go before I am back home.

Also - depends on how accurate your aim is.

Interesting you should bring this up. I'm having issues myself with people managing to pull objects away from my grab when I'm already pulling an object towards me. Which also brings up the next issue - dropping items when using primary. On more than one occasion, oddly enough, the grav gun will drop the item I'm carrying as soon I go to launch it, I.E. it acts as if I used secondary fire.

Grav gun problems |

Had few thoughts on the subject because of the problems I had with my mouse
Most unlikely but possible is switch bounce. You somtimes get this with micro switches which are required to operate very quickly. i.e. a possible double operation of the switch or a momentry disconection of a fully depressesd switch.
I have a tendancy to keep primary and secondry key on the mouse partialy depressed. I have noticed with a wired mouse that, rapid lateral movemets of the mouse, in the heat of the game, can cause me to activate a mouse button unintentionaly.
I am not sure if the sensitivity setting of a mouse affects the whole operation of the mouse or just the speed of movement. I intend to exeriment with this.
Diet H2O mentions aim. Physics are fairly large as a rule and aim should not be that critical. I have often picked a passing combine ball passing me from behind wich I could not have been aiming at. If there is a zone associated with phyisics, akin to a headshot box, it would explain why it would be possible for another player to have priority.
anyone else any thoughts on the suject

Grav Gun problems |

Sorry, forgot to mention old Newtons Laws, Relativity and vectors.
Consider -
Both grav guns are the same strength:-
The force exerted on physic will be relative to the direction and speed of movement of the player.
To put in simple terms, this means that a player can grab a physic which you have already latched onto by virtue fact that he can exert a grater force on the physic due to his position and movement.....

I think diet's point is valid aswell.
Consider you are aiming for the centre of a physic (lets just take a crate.. nice and cube-like), it will usually jump straight up and you catch it. If you aim for the side (obviously from the same distance away), the crate will rotate slightly so that side is facing you, THEN it will jump up into you g-gun.
Also, if two people are running towardsa the same physics, but one of them is sprinting. The sprinting guy will get closer to the object so the object will be attracted to his/her g-gun more than the other dudes gun.

Grav Gun |

Hi DrBreen,
can't say I recall having met you in a killbox but it is possible. I play a lot and have only been paying attention to the opponents names since I joined this forum in mid April. Could have been before that in the bad old camping and smg days. Could also have been on a KC server. (I have a vague recollection of somone crouching in the bunker in server 1, catching and returning my rotor blade )
I will look forward to meeting you despite the disparity in skill
I dont mind being humiliated by anyone, but especially by Pure Slut Hero
On hols at the moment but will be back 5th. June. Hope to fight you then
