I've been having incredibly high loss and choke recently, and while part of the problem is probably due to my wireless router, I think maybe some of it is due to Steam being an evil bitch.

Anyway, I'm running a laptop with
RadeonX700 256 MB graphics
Pentium M 2.00 GHz
and 2GB RAM

And Steam is telling me that I have an 800MHz processor. I only realized this today when I decided to install HL2: Lost Coast and was informed that I did not have the required system specifications.

I posted a help request on Steam, but I was wondering if maybe you guys might know what to do about this..

PS I ran a Sandra benchmark on my processor and it's working completely fine.

Pentium-M Processors use to clock down to procede less heating and save Energy. Maybe your CPU really was on 800MHz as your Steam reported it to be? Or maybe Steam will only detect the lowest Speed-Stepping at mobile Processors in anyway? I really dont know exactly but maybe your Steam just got your CPU in downclocked mode - even it should be sleeping while installation of Lost Coast.

Im not sure but maybe thats the Reason - you could try to sort your "Energy Saving" Settings and maybe find a Option there that disables the Power Management (mainly the CPU Downclocking) as long you play with pluged-in Energy.

What Dan said also happened on my Dual Core Intel when I first installed Windows - it was 2.4 but clocking at 1.6. There was an option in the bios you needed to disable although I forget what it was! I'll have a look now and see if I can remember it m8.

Hi again dude -

Right just checked my bios and I think the option you need to disable is:

Intel Speed Step tech.

The other one to try is C1E Support (again disable it).

I'm fairly sure its the first but doing both won't do any harm (I have both disabled).

Its actually an AMD 64 3200+ @ 2.0 GHz.
I haven't had any problems...

In your Case the Steam Measurement just sucked but the Power of 2 GHz was still there alltime. The 2 Scenarios above are about real downclocked CPU´s and the Power loss in follow of that.

Your overclocked Athlon 64 (same as my P4 2.53 and most older Desktop CPU´s) dont even use a Speed-Stepping that switch between different Clocks for different circumstances.

Our Processors work with the full (set) Speed or they stop working and the System shuts (hopefully) down before it dies by overheating. There is no Step between like at Pentium M and newer Core2Duo CPU´s.
