When i start up deathmatch and attempt to join a server, it comes up with the message "could not contact master game server to retreve server list". I have checked my firewall settings and steam isnt blocked.
The weird thing is (i think) when im not in the game (as in doing stuff on the desktop), i can view server information and see what games other people are in.

It has been this way for the last few days and i have also tried restarting steam, reastarting the pc.
Does anybody know whats wrong or how to help?

Restart internet, have you got the ports open?

Have you tried verifying your game files?

Go to Steam
Then Games
Then My Games
Right Click on HL2 DM
Properties
Local files
Then click on 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache'

For some reason after some updates, and for other random problems, this works really well.

Try it.

Failing that, its re-installing steam.................

I have indeed just tried validating my game files and the same problem still occurs.
I have also realised that i might have 2 reinstall steam but i would rather try this option last as i have reinstalled it twice in the past month for different reasons.

Does anybody else have any ideas? has anybody experienced this before?

don't know if this will help.. but have you tried running the steam connection test?

I tried the test and deleted what the report told me to try. This falied also (and i tried it twice)

I will just try and reinstall steam in the morning... to tired now,

Ok now i realy have a problem.

Reinstalled steam and the same problem is still occuring. Have absolutly no idea why either Embarassed

have u tried to log in with an other steam account and then to connect to the servers?
have u tried to connect with an other pc from ur lan to the servers?
have u searched with google if anyone had the same problem? Smile

I had a similar problem about 1 month ago, could not connect to any servers and could not see any servers using steam. Tried looking for servers using the ALL SEEING EYE, this I could do but still could not connect. Tried playing an online game which didn't need steam and had no problem. I then decided to un-install Steam completely, after un-installing I turned the PC off and then back on. RE-INSTALLED Steam and my games overnight and since then have had no problems.

Im not exactly sure what the problem is but i know how to make the game work now. Now just to reclaim my lost skills and i will be kicking ass again Twisted Evil
