Subject description: i thought my computer was fixed when.....

as you all know my computer has been acting strangely by shutting off on its own at random times. i thought this was fixed when my dads friend discovered that when he built it, he put the fan in backwards Embarassed. so he put it in correctly and even added a bonus fan!!! Very Happy HOW ABOUT THAT!! anyway, i thought the problem was away but then tragedy struck. while playing lord of the rings, my computer............died. AGAIN!!!!!!!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil so if the computer isn't overheating from the backwards fan Embarassed then i don't know what it is. any suggestions? thanks for whatever you have to say.

A weak or failing power supply could be the cause of your system instability. What are the specs (CPU, MB, GPU, etc...) of your rig? You can find out your power supply's wattage and such by looking at the sticker on its side (hopefully it will be facing you and not the other side of the case).

It could also be overheating still (if it was in the first place). You can check temperatures using the program Speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php). Just alt-tab out while gaming to get your load temp, or run a Prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm) torture test for 10-15 minutes.

Good luck, dude!
