Computer Problems Subject description: my computer shuts off randomly..... |
|
hey this is bacon. i was wondering if anyone could help me out with my computer issue. at times when i'm playing DM or lord of the rings, my computer will just shut off on its own. the screen will go black and the power will be off. i find this really frustrating. i just got this brand new computer 3 months ago and it's already acting up. it just started this past weekend of january 7th and 6th, or something like that. anyway, i just got lord of the rings battle for middle earth II 2 weeks ago. i don't know if there is a problem with the game or what. i'm new with computers, this is my first one and i'm a teenager. how about that huh? Any help would be extremely appreciated . please tell me whatever you know or think. i really want to keep playing DM! please save me!!!

Hm this is weird. Maybe try and scan it for spyware or virus first but I doubt it if thats the issue. It could be some problem with your hardware and power supply. If the problem still goes on I would take the PC to the shop you bought it in and let them bang their heads with it not you . Does this ever happen when not playing games also?

i had a similar problem at one point and it was due to my fan. check your hard drive and if its dusty that might be the problem because its not letting your fan operate. and a tip for the future. hoover your computer every 3 months or so.

Just in case... there wasn't a small electricity supply outage at each occasion?

to milton, no there isn't any viruses and this only happens during games. when i'm on the internet nothing happens.i also looked at the fan and it looks dusty. i don't know if that means anything or what. i'm really new at this. i know it's hard to figure out computer problems when you're long ways away. the power supply is new so i don't think it's that. THIS IS SOOO FRUSTRATING!!!

This is what my old friend Google came up with:
http://www.google.si/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Asl%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=sl&q=computer+shuts+down+during+games&meta=&btnG=Iskanje+Google
Right in the first hit there one guy said that cleaning all the dust from his machine did the trick. As Sam said it could be the dust in the heat fan or maybe video card. Open the machine and clean it.

Power supply is new |
I meant your electricity to your home. Sometimes it can go down for a second or two. You wouldn't notice it unless the radio was on or something. Unlikely, but obvious.
It does sound like a heating problem, either the pc's fan or even the cpu. If it's new it shouldn't have too much dust though.

I work for a helpdesk in computer breakdowns, perhaps i could help. Is your machine able to turn back on straight away after it shuts down by itself? If not your machine is overheating, so its very likely as people have said before that either two fans on the cpu or on the graphics card are failing due to dust.
Try playing your game with the case open and watch to see if the fans go round. Also check out the fan on the power supply.
Lastly, any other devices such as usb cameras, printers etc that are plugged in draw power from the computer, unplug these and run your computer with just the essential cables.

Try running SiSoft Sandra's benchmarking software. Go here for the freeware version. This will give your cpu and mainboard a full workout, and show up any overheating probs. (Of course, you'll need temperature gauges on your cpu and board).

The environment stats are in red. If you're getting over 50° C on any of them you have a problem, usually dust or airflow restrictions.
