I had bought new 4gb ram(2x2gb) for windows 7. I donŽt think its faulty. IŽll try out the 9500gt in my old pc, if it gets a better score than my 8800gts then the card must be broken. I did a lot of stress testing and there was nothing wrong. the gpu runs games ok but apparrantly the performance is less than it should be. lets see what the 9500gt will return.

They might have just done a terribly shitty job of coding it for that card.

Happens often these days for games that release tandem on the PC and consoles.

They will even claim that card is supported as long as it doesn't BSOD after the title screen.

its not just bioshock anymore, apparantly IŽm being robbed of 3d performance in general. I tried out my 9500gt and like the 8800gts it only got half of the 3dmarks it should have gotten. so the gpu is fine. next IŽll check the ram. IŽll try putting only 1 ram in and in a different slot. then I can test my old 2gb set.

edit: tried old ram, put new ram in a different slot, still the same result. so its not the ram or the gpu.

Did you check reg entries and clean them out. Are you using powerdvd or anything like that (which can really screw up performance). Did you connect the PC to the mains instead of the hamster treadmill generator?

I had the problem with windows xp 32bit, I made the change to windows 7 64bit and the problem is still there, a bit worse even. 2 different OS, different drivers and still the same problem. a fresh os has no broken registry entries or leftovers. I donŽt use powerdvd, what does that have to do with the problem unless you were to run it in the background?

cabbage, do you mean putting the gpu in the second pci-e slot? that would screw up the whole setup, IŽd have to install longer watertubes and I canŽt be bothered to do that since I will buy a new pc this summer. why should the primary pci-e slot be broken? does that happen? I could try out the 9500gt in the other slot but I donŽt think that would make a difference.

In my experience Powerdvd can cause a lot of strage problems around performance - even after uninstalling. GL with finding a solution. You've looked at the events log in manager? You ran a dxdiag?

Im not the hardware man, you know alot more than me, but slots can fail get dust in etc that cause it to malfunction

I somehow broke the bootmanager so I had to reinstall windows, was just testing some bios options and it happened. IŽm not going to bother anymore I think, hl2dm runs fine, I finished bioshock 2, IŽll just wait till my next pc.

I don't think I can help much anymore without actually having hands on the PC.
Check you overclock and make sure your PCIE bus is running at the right speed.

the pcie speed is fixed to 100mhz. IŽm getting the right amount of cpu marks in 3d mark, in the everest cpu benchmarks I have the fastest dual core cpu, so I think there is nothing wrong with the cpu performance here.

Just a few more observations after a weekend of Bioskock2

Make sure you set up Games for Windows_LIVE properly. I didn't and lost 3 hours play because the single player game wont save without it.
Of course, you also need it to play multiplayer.
I did not get much time to try multiplayer because I got the "gotta play this through to the end" bug on single player Cool
Unfortunately I picked Civil War as my intro to online multiplayer and this turned out to be a fairly standard TDM in a spectacular setting with a few likable twists to the gameplay.

I am hoping to try out the other variants over the next few days.

My playing name is bioZog so you can add me to you Games for Windows_LIVE friends list ( however you do that)

bioZoggy

I was just browsing a forum already having given up and what do I see, someone else has the same problem and there is an answer: raise the northbridge voltage, its a an error with the 965 boards. when you put a lot of strain on it (overclock) it doesnŽt work properly and sets the pci-e slot to X1. so I upped the voltage from 1.25 to 1.45 and its at X16 now and the gpu performance has doubled->problem solved Very Happy maybe I can even clock the cpu higher now as well, IŽll test it out soon.

and guess what, my sound lag problem is also gone also, apparantly the pci slots were affected as well. weird thing it was all fine with windowx xp.

I donŽt want to play bioshock 2 through a third time though Laughing

lol, computers!!!..... Twisted Evil

Nice that u fixed it.

that reminds of a problem i had with one older pc of my father, i bought Flight Simulator X for him ( hes the crazy flight sim adict...) and everytime i inserted the dvd, runned autorun, and when i pressed the install button, got BSOD... and pc rebooted.... i was like O_O

So, i tried it like 3 or 4 more times, always the same, i went to the store, they gave me a new copy, get home, and, same!!! and i go like %&%&!!" ####$ "#"#"""

Tried everything, gfx drivers, win updates, etc, etc, and so on.
My brother comes home, i explained it the mess, and he goes, "hey, do a bios update!" and i go like " ##%%&"""#" WTF does that have to do, and how that can solve it??!!?!?....... and i go f*** it, will do.

Did the bios update to the mobo, and, charam!!...worked..... i was like O_O f***** computers!!! Razz

I once had a problem with windows xp sp1 where i had to install 3 device drivers in the exact correct order or one device would not work. sp2 fixed that for some reason. also a component of the nvidia chipset drivers was stopping something from working, i think it was my dsl modem. figuring out what is the cause of the problem is really annoying as the chances are high that your problem is kind of unique and no one can help you, you are the only person who can try to solve it. some people might give you some tips but most of the time all of those tips fail to fix anything.

talking about lame PC bugs. i have one atm. in network controller options, where u can choose speed/duplex settings, i have set 10FD, that only gives me max speed 1mb/s, when i put Auto negation (would allow me to use max speed of my net which is like ~30mb/s) i get message that interent cable is not plugged in... dont know if that is a bug in motherboard or its something else :\
