you could play with a projector but you have to be far away to have an overview of the whole screen, or else you will have to look in more than one place. I played a few games on our projector to test it and it was playable. but it takes some time to get used to it, then its like a normal screen.
the quality really depends on the projector, if you want a home cinema one (lcd) you have to make your room dark all the time but get better quality, if you want daylight working ones (dlp) the quality is not so good. we have a dlp one because its mainly used for powerpoint. also the cost is important, the more it costs the more it has resolution and whatever else there is like lumen. (ours has only 800x600, you can set the pc resoulution to 1024x768 max but its has 2000 lumen (dlp ones have it high so they work with daylight too, just a little shadow needed) I say this with my knowledge I have from one year ago when we bought ours, IŽm not so sure if all was right or if there where any other kinds of projectors, look on google and youŽll find reviews of games and movies with projectors.

Hi Fluff,
I have an Optoma projector which I hook up to my PC to watch DVDs and play games. It is pretty awesome to play HL2 on a 6' x 6' screen - the main problem is knowing what to do with the mouse and keyboard when you are not sat at a computer desk.
The other issue is having a big enough room to use it and a suitable surface to project onto.
For films though, it is fantastic
