I click between catch and throw really really fast while bunnyhopping backwards usually, catches it more than I die. The bunnyhop sometimes saves you by either going below the prop or you clear it.

Crouch is the best method I have found especially when learning, or against someone who likes to throw low. Treat it like aim on any other weapon, and follow it in to the gun. The best way to catch the prop while airborne (at least for me) is to aim a little low. I have very good luck with the grav gun.

Just press hold!
My favourite, is to crouch - let it fly over your head, stand - and casually take out you xbow and nail them. Only works 1% of the time but is worth it.
