Sound cards in win 7 |
|
When i upgraded to win7 x64 late last year i had to stop using my hercules fortissimo 7.1 sound card as it wasn't supported in win 7.
I'm now looking to get a sound card as my onboard sound only has 5.1 sound.
Can anyone reccomend a reasonable priced card that has 7.1 surrond sound fully working with win 7 64bit
tia

Take a look at the Asus Xonar serie.
Starting at 44€ up to 200€.

Thanks for the reply/info Osiris
I like the look of the Asus Xonar DX and DS
Is there any point of pay the extra £15 for the DX which uses pcei x1, instead of the DS which uses a PCI?

The DX does have more functionnalities and higher certifications.

Osiris have spent a lot of time reading the reviews and the dx comes out very well and it seems fairly comparable to the d2x in output which is a lot more exspensive. Also the DS seems to have only medium support for surrond sound gaming and also no eax5 support
The only problem is the pcie x1 slot is just below the pcie x16 slot and although my graphics card is low profile passive cooling, i wonder how much this minimal gap would allow enough cooling, if i had the pcie x1 slot filled?
The other option is the D1 which the same card as the DX but goes in a pci slot, but the pci slots will soon be phased out.
What would you advice?

It should be fine, if you have another pci 16x slot you can switch your graphic card to allow more cooling, if not considering that your case does have fans which extract the air the cooling should be fine either if your sound card is below the graphic card.
