I coulndt agree more with you zog.

and that hapens with lots of pets..

The problem is, people buy them..so pet shop owners have profit, wich means they just going to keep selling them.

In this specific case (turtles) i dont get why parents (in general) think its a good ideia to give turtles to kids..
Here hapens just the same, the turtle grows, people dump them in the rivers, lakes, or whatever they think they fit as long as it has water.
So, they destroy the ecosystem, fish, plants, etc, they eat everything.

There is a natural reserve, in north of the country, that i know, they keep around 100 (+) turtles, that they got out of those rivers/lakes wich were destroying the ecosystem.

I have this turtle, just because my father wanted to give it to my nephew, and i said to him, bad ideia!! we had so many animals, you know its going to be a bad ideia!... around 1 month later, maybe less, my brother goes complaining, turtle dont eat, turtle smells, turtle this, blah blah, lol.
Ok, just give me the dam turle... and i go, ok dad, here it is....i told you.. Razz

Nice you like the setup, keeping it clean, is actually what giving me the more trouble.... i first tried a small internal filter, in a smaller aquarium, and i could keep the water clean, 2 days most.... and the smell was terrible.

i got an external filter (tetratec EX700) and it is way better, but still, i was kinda disapointed, i can keep the water clean for about 2 weeks at the maximum!!... ( i was thinking i could hold it at least 1 month..lol)
But was still a big improvement, its easier to clean now, i just use the hose to suck the water out of the tank, and replace it, clean the filter, and ready to go, easy, just takes sometime, the smell are gone to, but when i open the filter....arghhh!.... they do a lot more mess than i expected.

Cheers

Edit: btw, i found many turtles in the pet stores, so tiny! like 2cm long....
Wich is ilegal in some countries, i know in the US its ilegal to sell them under 10cm. this brings another problem: salmonella! (perfect for kids...wich put their hands in their mouths all the time.. )

Dog starts off cute (about 5 months ago...)

Turns into master destroyer of homes; however this time the bin fought back! Came down as he was crying, found him stuck in the bin lid!

Yeah that time but last week...

...he finally discovered the in-feed pipe to the washing machine and managed to chew through it and flood the whole kitchen. I wasn't impressed Laughing

So, here are some quick pics of my new little turtle....

Been with me for around 2 months now, it was a neighbor that give it to me, it was really badly treated, the day i got it, i really thought it would die...i gave the turtle 2 days max!.. its eyes were swollen and closed, the shell was a mess, with clear calcium problems...didnt move a centimeter from where u puted it.. and it didnt eat at al....

But even in that condition, it still had strenght to try to bite when i grabed it, so, thats when i saw oportunity, give it a shot to force some food down its troat... heated up the water, gave it a nice sun exposure, and voila... after 1 week, started to eat alone, eyes opening, ang got active.

the thing is, this turtle have now around 1 and half year.....

So, after 2 months, has already doubled the size...... has the greater apetite of all the 3 turtles!! goes crazy with the mealworms, it really does some hunting... like, ambushing the mealworms.. lol. really surprised me, this turtle is a fighter.

I dont know where im going to put all the 3 turtles.... lol, ill figure that out later..

Cheers

lol. i didnt remember this beetle pics. 40.
Currently the population is out of control.... way way more than 40 beetles ( 250+/- for sure, not to mention larvae..)

Anyway, here is the new home for my turtles. sorry for the crappy cellphone pics. i coulndt get any turtle on photo, cause now they run away and hide underwater. I no longer keep them.
The 3 turtles got huge. crazy eating and pooping machines. the maintence at home was just not reasonable anymore.
They are way better in this lake, where they should be.

Now im seting up the tank for fresh water fish... lol. ill post the pics later.

Cheers
