Hi

My friend has Windows XP installed, and recently decided to get his internet working.

He got it working on a wireless network, and I.E. 6 worked fine, all internet sites worked fine.

So I go to update it, and install Firefox. I download and install fine, open up firefox, and it doesn't work. Nothing, no matter what I change in the settings. Ive checked firewall, added exceptions, etc, and sill nothing.

So instead I decide to upgrade internet explorer 8, and install it to see if that works.

I download it (Using I.e 6), install (I.e. 6 now goes away). Now I.e. 8 won't work, and the only working internet browser is no longer available because I.e 8 is the newer browser.

Ive checked everything I can think of, disabled firewall, and still nothing, anyone got any ideas?

Well that could be quite complex like quite easy to fix.
Just to be sure check out that DNS is working:

Run > cmd > ping 91.121.211.28
If this fail then you have a networking problem, if this success then you have a working network, you can then check out if the problem is from the DNS by running this:

Run > cmd > ping tsgk.com

If this fail, then you have a problem with the DNS Server, you should then try to set DNS server manualy at the connection property, like Open DNS

Primary: 208.67.222.222
Secondary: 212.27.40.241

If the test pass, then, you know it is not network related.
So, if not done yet, be sure that Windows XP is upgraded to SP2 (since SP2 wireless network is working differently).
Try out another protocole like FTP, with an FTP client (FileZilla or whatever).
