Windows 7 is Here |

Windows 7 is finally here, but, in many different forms, question is which one will you take, I'd love the Big Ass Bad Boy, but it will set me back £229. Question is which one will you take?

I'll probably move over to it soon once I work up the energy. You can only upgrade easily from like to like so I would have to buy win7 ulitmate as I'm on vista ultimate. 299 euros... pfft. See if I can get it cheaper anywhere else.

I have used the beta and RC for about 10 months with no problems.
I installed home premium last night and everything went well.
I did not need ultimate because I don't use any of extra things it has.
XP mode = I have dual boot so not needed
Domain join = For company networks ...not needed for home user
Automatic backup = sounds like a great way of using up hard drive space
Bitlocker = I would forget the password killing my memory sticks
35 Languages = I have trouble with English... it would confuse me

It is basically a very heavily optimized vista with some new toys.
Good OS.

The only reason to upgrade atm is if you have Vista. Stick with XP until it runs out of support by MS or game developers.
There's no reason to buy Win7 Ultimate unless you need some of the features outlined by Mick or unless like me you have Vista Ultimate - the only easy upgrade is between the same levels (i.e. V Ult to W7 Ult). Otherwise it's a fresh install and you will lose the data/apps on your PC and have to carry it across from back-up. If this isnt a problem then buy a cheaper edition (I certainly wouldnt buy ultimate for the additional features)

Although you may want to upgrade if you want DX 10 and DX 11 games.
And assuming your on 32 bit Win XP, upgrading to 64 bit OS means you can get mor ethan 4GB (-GFX) RAM recognised. Thats why I'm finally jumping; never bothered with Vista but Win 7 is alright

Im in the same place as well, Got the extra RAM which XP won't use, I got a 500GB hdd drive that only has 128GB available because XP Installer doesn't format to the full amount.
I spotted a copy of my Dads Ultimate on the side this morning, going to ask him if he got more than 1 user licence for it .

I think XP supports dx10 m8. Which reminds me of another opportunity to beat a stick at my m8 Shimmy. The only reason I went Vista was that when it was launch Shimmy reminded me that MS were saying only Vista would support dx9. So I bought the elephant that is vista only to find out that MS reconsidered.
It would appear that I may be able to obtain a Win7 license from the job... so long as I ensure my PC is part of our test environment

Yeah, my only hope is they keep it inovative like Mac does year on year, Windows update never seems to novative, just fixes bugs and issues patches (banana seemed good as we have no super lol animations )

I just use seperate hdd's for different os's.
I use a hot swap drive bay so from the front of the PC I can switch on and off my drives as I please.
The bay is one of the best upgrades I ever made tbh, its is really useful

I did use this method in the past but I now have sata drives that
wont work with old trays .
I did have my PC setup for dual boot for the last
10 months but only used XP once to play battlefield 2
because punkbuster kicked me on Windows 7...
I have since fixed this bug.
