heapsize: amount of data hl2dm preloads into the ram. I use 512000 (512mb). the maximum to use should be half the amount of your ram. I found for my system half the amount results in some startup complication sometimes so I use 1/4.

novid: skip opening video

dxlevel 81: start the game with directx 8 instead of 9, reduces quality and effects but improves fps because of that, usually recommended for pcs under the recommended power for this game.

Make sure you get the numbers right. Dm isnt too good with mem as it is.

1572864 "if you have 3gb"
1048576 "if you have 2gb"
786432 "if you have 1.5gb"
524288 "if you have 1gb"

Depending on your operating system you can squeeze a little more. I have found XP to use less than 400MB to run all services efficiently.
So everything else is fair game for me. Vista needs at least 1GB to even run(still not efficiently) so be much more careful on Vista.
I'm Using 3GB of my 4 and noticed an increase in performace until then. after that nothing.
But each system is different so give them all a test until you see the best performance.

it wont make a difference tho xD
the only thing i ever noticed was it takes less time to reach the main menu xD Oh and you can spawn more stuff on lan servers w00t xD
