Only problem now is that the cpu I bought for €410 is now available for €350. Should I return and wait another week maybe more or should I just shrug, take out my hammer and start banging away with gusto? |
Second choice sounds fine and decent to me. |
Fair enough, I like to bang away with gusto. |

I now suspect that the (new) gfx card is faulty.
This all started with a gfx card problem. Ironic (in an Alanis Morrisette way).

Looks fine to me, even a custom cpu heatsink
What makes you think the graphics card is faulty?

Well, when I bought it and used it in my old rig, L4D was completely unstable and even HL2DM would only be stable at low, to medium settings. Figured that it was just the old PC not being up to it.
But now with the new PC it still crashes in HL2DM. Getting a flicker every now and then and some strange things... here and there a square shadow would appear, or it might crash (with looping sound) and display some weird colours. L4D is stable although I do get the odd stutter.
Been reading some forums and there can be problems with this factory overclocked card.
Possibly, it could be down to running vista 64 bit but I don't think so.
Really pissing me off.
If shimmy owned a PC I would rob his gfx card and test my machine, but he owns a girly poncy gay macbook thing.

Geographically yes. Socio-economically no.
But that's not a bad idea. Raffa - if I gave you card would you plug it into your PC and see if it failed? Would I ever see you again?
But for now the best I could hope for would be a replacement from the seller, so maybe a stress test could yield some results. Might try furmark or something later. My seller tells me that they'll replace it if they can replicate the fault or if I can prove the fault

I'm not making any promises, but sure you can test it in my pc if you want.

Ah kk, you have a fan that must be expelling through the top then
I'm just used to coolers that direct air through the back tis all as thats usually the most effective way
