Intel does it again |
|
Here it is, the new Intel core i7. Now on sale. The fastest processsor on the planet earth. AMD eat your heart out.
http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/releases/20081117comp_sm.htm#story
I won't even try to sumarise the contents of the link other than to say this is probably the most significant development sice the P4.
The down side at the moment is the cost. A quick flick through my usual suppliers with a mix and match to make the cheapest low end i7 system came up with a cpu, mobo and 3xDDR3 combo which cost £775 or arround $1200
The up side is that the cost of the high end 2 core quads will probably drop in price making serious computing power avaliable us all bet it with yesterdays CPU.

This overcloacking has been done with a CPU which was especialy selected by AMD where they removed all the protection, therefor you will never ever been able to do it with a commercialized CPU at all, it was purely for a show off with a tuned CPU.
In January at the CES Las Vegas, Intel is gonna do the same with a Core i7, protection will be removed too for the show off and frequency should be up to 7 Ghz... The funny part, is that at the CES, AMD will announce their Phenom II, party is probably gonna be pooped by the Core i7 especial overcloacking.
I will probably update my settings when Core i7 will be in Tick version at 32 nm, at this time it will be probably Octocore and multicore CPU will be fully exploited by the software part which isn't really the case at this time execpt for the server market.

Not particularly wanting to be controversial but we as the consumers want the best for our bucks. At this particular moment ( and for the last year ) there has been no question as to who is supplying the goods.
AMD set the standard with inovation and price in the early days and produced a superior product. That is just not the case at the moment.
Tomorrow might be different.
Which ever side you take, I am only interested in a product that is affordable, dependable and meets my needs with a little bit of headroom.
I am sitting at a machine that was shit hot without being overly expensive less than a year ago. The same goes for the graphics card.
Its is more than capable of running dm2 seemlesly without cpu or gpu warming up much more than room temperature.
Yet, it still falls in a rattle of shit.

AMD has given me many years of cheap computing and for that I will always have a soft spot for them.
Without AMD Intel would not have been so keen to give us cheap cpu's.

I won't buy GPU's/CPU's over 200€
Over that price, it's complete shit to me (this goes to both AMD and intel, nvidia, etc.)
