I heard that the split screens can really bug your game play. Distance between monitors interferes. Opti has the right idea

Or just pick yourself up an HDTV. My 40 incher does the job for me. Can't get more than 1080p for resolution, but that just keeps the hardware costs down !
That alienware monitor is freaking nuts, but not practical for much except gaming (assuming it's even supported). How much you think it's going to cost?

it will cost an arm and a leg i guess lol
but getting an HDTV and a graphic card with HDMI output is the best. the tv will have built in speakers which will reduce clutter

Hmmm.
A nice big super monitor three feet away from your nose = a big area of blindspot/s in game.

3 monitors woudln't be too good, I would absolutely hate seeing black bars in between. I think you should just get a big single monitor.

It could also be argued that so long as the monitor is properly centered and not too big could be better in game, especially w.r.t. reaction time outside of the center of focus (a curved monitor will help even more). Peripheral vision is pretty crappy when it comes to colors, but is great in picking up movement. Center of the eye for your focal point, periphery for the outskirts, work divided and eyes working how they normally do. Stationary targets notwithstanding. Or I'm just full of crap (which is probably the case !).
I sit less than three feet away from my 40in when I game and it would be almost perfect if I could lower my screen by about 3 inches. That being said, it can't be good for my eyes .

Thanks for the advice. The way i thought it would work is that you would have youre normal view in the middle screen. but have two other screens at either side giving a wider view of whos homing in.
Maybe i was a Thomsons Gazelle in a past life

An extra monitor would not give you an idea of who's 'homing in'. There is a setting called POV (Point of View) or FOV (Field of View..I cannot remember) which cannot be changed without sv_cheats 1. Basically it ensures that everybody can only see at the same angle or field of view irrespective of the size of your monitor.
It wouldn't really be fair if you had a extra 25/45 degrees POV over another player as you can 'see' more of the map.
There is a setting in TF2 options menu that allows you to change your POV/FOV to a certain value so you can see 'more' of the map.

widescreen gives you more visibility on the sides though without changing a setting.
