PostPosted: Wed Dec 19, 2007 21:51    Post subject:  Steam games problem
Subject description: PC restarts only on steam games at the loading screen

Hi, I have a problem.

My PC restarts only on steam games at the loading screen (most of the time)

This all started when I got my new graphic's card it's name is
"ATI Sapphire HD 2600 PRO 512mb" (3 weeks ago)

I keep getting a stop error when I start up a game about 2 times a day and then my pc restarts.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the graphic's card drivers about 4 times now and still the same, also there's no updates for this card and "Catalyst Control Center" don't work and I have net 2 from MS.

---------------------------------
CPU: Intel P4 2.80 Ghz
RAM: 512 Mb
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro AGP
DirectX Version 9.0c (november)
Monitor Name: Plug and Play Monitor
Refresh Rate: 85 Hz
---------------------------------

After my pc restarted I got this error

I clicked don't send and went on more information about error.

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf7cb.dir00\Mini120907-02.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf7cb.dir00\sysdata.xml

(dmp file in Attachment)

Here's 2 pictures of the errors

---------------------------------

Before my pc restarted I got a blue screen that said this

following points are a good way too:

1st punsh the ati card out of your pc with a baseball bat (be carefull dont hit other devices)
2nd buy a axe and try to fix the card with it (you may need a wodden brick)
3rd if the fix wont work feed the pieces to your dog (not all in one time maybe apportion it to few meals)
4rd kill the dog

to kill the dog is humane because he runs with an ati card and will die after 2 month with great torments (but he wont run anyway)

Oh dear Shocked

Those symptoms sound all too familiar. Exactly the same, just before my ATI card self destructed. (One month after the warranty expired.)
One of the memory chips was iffy so the problem was not always obvious until you started to use a lot of graphics memory.
Suggest you try a graphics stress test and see what happens.

Zog

I've done a graphics stress test with Source SDK Base about 3 weeks ago FPS was 60 if I remember right. Wink Old card was about 30 fps. Laughing

I installed the new drivers from sapphire but that didn't do alot Confused apart from Catalyst Control Center now works.

I am now going to write to sapphire. Evil or Very Mad

Saphire was where my card came form.

Lost the fan first and despite the abortive attempt to try the on line warranty when it started going wrong................

You get what you pay for.

The nvidia card I have now has not missed a beat. I have a thermal sensor on chip with a low set alarm temperature.

I will not say which make is better, only nvidia have not let me down so far.

Also, the dog eats my socks Shocked not computer bits. he knows better.

serious subject..... am struggling for a funny

too many manufacturers, too many different versions of cards... not all will work well together. Sell the card or bring back to the store if possible, buy a new one. Nvidia 7800 with agp, cheap to get. I dont know, if the ATI 2600 agp has dx10, but with 512MB ram, i think, you dont installed vista. So u dont need dx10. I use Nvidia, never had problems. But some friends also not with ATI. Both are good, but your own components in PC should work well together, at the moment it seems not like...
otherwis i know a good site with gamerdrivers for graphiccards. Use this link:

I bought TF2 and only, ONLY when I reinstalled the original ATI drivers that shipped (I upgraded the drivers months back via STEAM's recommendation) did I have the ability to load the game and play...
Sorry to hear about the issues...It's a shame we all either experience this from time to time considering the time, money and love of the games expended.

Good luck!

ATI are not bad, it is the Manufacturers fault. Saphire just look like they have gone from bad to worse. but Power Colour and HIGHTECH produce qaulity ATI cards still.
